Has anybody attempted to make a data-logger program for the iphone/ipod touch? Or is it even possible?

Actually I believe 1996 was the magic number. Although some vehicles in 95 ( and even in 94) were compatible. Not sure about the DSM's...

If i'm not mistaken, mitsubishi switched all of their vehicles over to obdII after 1995, so all cars from then on have it. Mine does anyways, and on the inside of my door panels, it has a manufacturing sticker on it that says jan 1994. OMG

Ok lets try again, the 95 is ODB II complient, but you would have to socket it to make it work with a pocket logger I think

Steve, or somebody who knows ECU's will hopefully answer this thread and let us know how to make your 95 ECU work with a pocketlogger...

Does this mean that you can't use the developer software like Xcode that you get with a purchase of a apple computer to write something up for the iphone?

iphone has its own SDK
iPhone Dev Center

Its free, though the licensing agreement is very stringent and you invalidate the license if you use assistance [of any sort really] or post code outside the iPhone Dev Center. For like $199 [which is very cheap in software world] you can get an enterprise level dev center. The coding is in C++ which for me is ideal. Only usable on iphone

The Google Android dev center is likewise free and far less stringent of licensing agreements. But I think you will have licensing issues if you try sell stuff [like the app store for the iPhone, I'll need to read it more closely]. Its java based and can be used on Mac, Windows and Linux. I prefer linux anyways. I just wish it was C++ based. Only usable on Google's Android phone

Android

But since DSMLink source code is written in Java it has a higher chance of portability and ease of portability to the Android platform than the iPhone.... not to mention you don't have to mess with apples silly licensing agreement and platform specific development station which in my opinion will stifle wannabe developers like myself.

So there is an application for the iphone and itouch and im not sure if anyone has seen it. Its called pocketdyno. It seems to be interesting and for a free app i figured why not try it out. It tells you est. horsepower and 1/4 mile times and a couple other things, who knows how accurate it really is but, I just downloaded it and if the roads are dry i am going to test this out ASAP. Here is the link to check it out yourself...Pocketdyno

So what do you guys think?

thats the Key word. I sprung for the 12.99$ and got Dynolicious, not to bad of a program if you ask me.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the iPhone's internal G sensor and probably requires an accurate vehicle weight, kind of similar to the HP calculators which use your 1/4 ET and trap speed.

I don't no how this one works yet....i just found it tonite and live in Michigan and we got snow... ha ha so idk how soon i will be able to try it. But you have to add in the dimensions and other factors, and if you buy the full thing for like 5 bucks i guess u can calculate your weight in... I'm gonna test this one first, if you goto the website it shows a real track run next to the iphones record using the full version. (Supposedly)

I was goin to try out the Dynolicious program for my iPhone until I got Jan. edition of Import Tuner where they did a Fact or Fiction test on it, and they ran it through the paces, and when it was all said and done they gave it a plausible. So it may be fun just to mess around with but don't take it serious at all for the most.

How does it work?..

add vehicle wait and drivetrain loss. then make you mod list, set it in the cup holder or wherever stationary and click go, launch your car and just keep going, it goes by g force and calculates it like that, and it has a G force thing also.

im going to pick it up probably tomorrow to see what they wrote.

Pocketdyno has been around for a long time. It works with a palm aswell. I dont know the history behind who mad it but it is a cool loogging program. I first used it with a early edition of DS-map. Not sure if Nick was the creator or not but it works pretty well. I dont know if any actual Dyno comparisons were done with it but it is still pretty cool. You can find it if you look hard enough.

I have the dynolicious app and it is actually pretty damn accurate, I used it on 4 or 5 of my buddies vehicls that have been dynoed and it was only 3 or 4 hp off on 5 pulls compaired to dyno sheets, well worth the $13 if you ask me

There are two units that might log on the iPhone at this point. First one is the PLX Devices Kiwi WiFi and there is also a version that runs on Droid. The second one is the OT-2 from Innovate. I know these are both ODB II scan tools and that do lots of things and have iPhone apps to go with them.

There is another logger on the i phone! Its from innovate Motorsport!! Its called the ot-2 and I have it installed on my car and it works perfectly tells me everything I need to know and I can even run the laptop on it aswell to view graph's and I read on the instructions can fiddle with fuel maps??? But I'm not that far yet haha I'm still learning the basics! Also because its a link system you can add other items to log and look after your car! I had the LC-1 wideband connected aswell. Take alook innovatemotorsports.com

I would think for the 1g cars you would see greater results using the android platform. Nothing against the Iphone but the android OS is open source and it is currently being used by the military for undisclosed reasons.

I am sure though if the money were spent that you could do it with either platform I just believe Android OS would be easier to develop on.

In doing research into the latest status of DSM Loggers for a 95 2G, I found this thread. Although the original post was related to the iPhone as a logger, it evolved into the methods to create a development platform for iPhone Apps for OBDII. It seems that the apps have been created. For those iPhone users, several apps exist. It seems that currently you 'buy' the cable for about $100, and get the software 'free'. I have not personally used this product, it does provide support to 'read' our key performance/sensor data. Not sure of the ability to store logs for future analysis, but can display current data, read DTC's and reset the CEL.

I am still trying to find the most cost effective logger setup for a 2G...right now EvoScan appears to be right (cable+software=$85 for laptop setup. logging/flashing cable is more $$). But do hear that sample rate is slow...is it useless? Did search for quite a while, but some posts are quite old, need current experenced feedback on 2G (95) Loggers.

Still would like to hear from the DSM Crew! Can't afford DSMLink as yet...
Thanks to all!!!
