I trimmed mine at first for the intercooler with my 2ga bumper then came back just recently and timed it for a 2gb trimmed bumper.

What do you mean trimmed?
And my lower bar has a dent from an impact, i don't know about the upper but are they easy to take and/or replace

it also serves to deflect impact forces from the center of the car to the body through the mounting point for the crash bar. but in any significant impact it is mangled but usually will not break in half keeping the engine from being directly hit.

the reason they have to put the disclaimer about not for road use is because they have not performed all the crash tests to get them dot certified. doesnt mean that they will not protect the car

That is reassuring. Protection under 10mph is basically not much. I know my front beam was removed/hacked.

I was definitely hoping someone would mention how fragile this thing really is. 3000 lbs is the average weight of cars these days. 3000 lbs at almost any speed is going to wreck that "crash bar" and anything else left in the collision path. I bet most of you jumped on it after you hacked it to see if it held up ROFL. Drop a bare block or a tranny on it & tell me if it doesn't snap in half. :aha:

Majority of your car is built strong enough from the factory to "protect" you in a crash. Other than that, it depends on the speed & location of the hit. Majority of what's in front of you can be avoided.... unless its a deer or telephone pole. Ask some kids if their "crash beam" reflected that raccoon late at night.

I've only been in one "accident" in my DSM and it was an "under 10 mph frontal impact" (idiot hit me in a parking lot) and the crash bar did it's job perfectly.

There for when I installed my FMIC I opted to keep the crash bar, just in case.

Mine is done the same way.

Sometimes 1/2 hour working with a grinder is a lot better than being lazy and removing a structural piece which could directly affect the safety and integrity of the front end. :thumb:

Plus I'd personaly rather spend a half hour then pay 150 for pretty much the same thing, but thinner and with less strength.

Plus were Dsm owners, not Honda owners. We like our cars being quality not crap

I've rear ended a Mercedes at about 10 once, blind turn panic stop to avoid a deer, and I didn't see him stopped. My crash bar wasn't even dented, just a small tear in the bumper skin. The other car was jacked though.

Without anything there, I would have had to replace the intercooler, radiator, and section in front end bits. Any amount of crash bar is worthwhile on a 1g. Especially worth 20 bucks in blades or discs, just for the fact if someone parks by feel, they could ruin your intercooler.

At this point and time you will never be the FIRST to do anything to these cars.

I figure if I get a auto, I can spool a monster turbo with some nitrous, Ill just position it over the cab, and spin the motor around. I'll let the inlet face up, he the out face down, itll be like a jet engine, flying my car strait into the sky.

Haven't figured out what to do what i run out of air yet.... maybe I'll just take a snickers bar so I have a minute to think
about it.

EDIT: I'll use the nitrous for the propulsion once out of air to push. :thumb:

If you think about it 2 cars only going say 30 (not very fast) hit head on. That's a combined speed of 60! that little "crash bar" is about to crumple like a soda can and your still going to be totaled! but hey atleast you had your crash bar LOL!ROFL

You people ar missing the point, its not there to protect you from a collision that could result in death at 60 or whatever. Its just nice to have, so some dumb shit doesn't wreck your bumper, lights, and intercooler by bumping into you when your at the porno store buying an anal plug. :ohdamn:

Not to mention, it supports the bumper from flapping in the winds, sagging, looking like some POS honduhh.

Mine is removed, I just use the stupidly heavy and thick SSAC core as a crash beam. Here is the result of a front end impact that totaled the Oldsmobile that hit me.

I think, if you want to keep your cross beam. This is the easiest solution and cost much less than fmic. No modifications required. matter of fact this is whats going to be my next choice in intercooler systems.

at $270-299, they come with complete installation. Can handle 600hp.

Water to Air Intercooler

the crash beam aint guna fit. the ssac intercooler is too massive

I hacked mine up in my old GST and plan to do the same with the Talon. The only reason I choose to keep it is because the front bumper fits like shit without it. Makes me paranoid. The bad thing about it (at least with the 2g's) is the damn smell that rolls off it when cutting it up. Holy crap was it bad.

i made mine out of some piping and some scrap pieces. it cost me about 30 bucks total to make

and as far as the strength think about what roll cages and bumper gaurds for trucks are made out of.

tubular steel.

mine mounts to the stock points and was very stable. i could use it as a skateboard rail if i wanted to it was so solid
