Am I asking for trouble?

Am I asking for disaster by grinding the crank 10 under? I already have the crank dropped off at the machine shop, and the clevite bearings are on there way in the mail. I keep reading different posts on rebuilds-some say I can get away with a ground, others say the crank is unservicable. I understand the crank will be a little weaker which would be more of a concern in a heavier car. Im putting the 4g63 in a 90 excel which only weighs about 2000 lbs, can I get away with a ground crank? So far I already have 8:3 to 1 weiscos(.20), eagle H beams, BSE, rebuilt stock head, cometic MLS head gasket, new oil and water pump, 16g, ARP head and main bolts and just about now more money!

....according to mitsu, the crank is unserviceable. If you can get a new crank, go for it. But if your already into grinding it, it should be fine....just make sure you get the right bearings like 99gst stated.

who cares what mits says they just want your money if you screw something up. there are pleanty of aftermarket bearing manuf. that will have whatever he needs to grind the crank.

Be a little more considerate of Mitsubishi. If it weren't for them, we'd all be driving Escorts or Cavaliers. I think they were rather nice to give us this vehicle we call the Eclipse. Some of the dealers perhaps are a little nefarious, but all in all, since I worked in a dealership I came away with a wealth of knowledge that I could have never gotten elsewhere.

My 2 cents.

Yes, that's right. Mits just wants our money, and they're only kidding when they say the crankshaft cannot be serviced.
Waxing the inner sidewalls of your tires will give you five more miles per gallon, too.

I've owned three (94,97,99).
I'm going to have to start stockpiling 95-99's so that way I'll still have something to drive when one runs into technical difficulties. I just don't see myself driving anything else, unless I win the lotto or something. Don't get me wrong, I can afford the Explorer's, Mustang's and such, but there is nothing nicer than sitting down with a cold one at sunset and watching the sun drop in the reflection of those beautiful curves and that freshly waxed paint... :coy: Ahhhh :coy:

I dont see why you cant cut the crank. Buschur offers it as one of his services and as far as Im concerned he builds some of the best motors around. If your really worried you could get it nitrided to harded the journals. But Id just use what you have.
