Alternator wire hanging

I've got this wire hanging from my alternator. It's been clipped or broken. Looks a little like it was cut.

The circle indicates the connector going into the alternator, the arrow indicates the specific wire (the one all the way on the end). I'm holding the other end of the wire, where it's cut.

My car is pretty well gutted - no A/C, no alarm, no power steering, so I'm not sure it's something I did a long time ago and forgot.

Just wondering what that wire originally went to. Thanks a lot.

I can't see much in that pic, but it's most likely the one that went to PS pump pressure switch. It's in the same harness as the alt wires.

That makes sense. That must be why I left the wire long, so I could reattach it later if needed. And I will be. Deleted PS - worst mod; damages steering rack.

But... why cut it? It just clips on to the PS Pump with a cheap little connector that likes to come off all the time anyway.

I'm not sure, it was a few years ago. But there's a method to my madness, I like to think.

I don't even remember ever seeing that thing (the connector for the power steering pressure switch). Would the power steering have worked without that? Like, maybe the PS just wouldn't adjust for speed or something? HM

Maybe it was yanked off. I don't know. I need to get those parts from my Dad's and hook that all back up ASAP.

The PS will work without the pressure switch connected. It's just to inform the ECU of any PS no pressure condition so it can set a CEL (P0551).

On at least a 1G, it is also supposed to notify the ECU to increase torque as the PS load increases; but I don't think I've ever noticed a difference to be honest.

I doubt that's true on either 1g or 2g since it's a pressure switch (either on or off at a psi) not a sensor.
