Alternator size/options...

I'll be needing a new alternator very soon. I called up Tallahassee Mitsu today and they quoted me 222 dollars plus shipping costs (includes core charge) to my house here in Gainesville. Part number is MD149750 for the 90 Amp model that came off the Galants. My question is this. Will this fit my '90 DSM? I'm assuming yes, but wanted to make sure. Also, alterstart has 135amp alternators w/ a lifetime warranty for 225 dollars plus shipping costs. I'm thinking of also going this route possibly. Thougtts? Thanks

Are you running a lot of stereo, or a lot of lights? If so, get the bigger alternator.

No upgraded stereo/etc in the car. I think I'm going to opt for the Mitsu stock 90 amp off the GVR4 IF IT FITS...

If my battery voltage according to the logger is 12 volts (around 12.4 volts exactly), is it safe to put the new alternator in..? I just don't want to overstress the new alternator. The battery has died (gone down to like 6 volts) twice within the past 3 days since I was basically running solely off the battery because of my previous crapped out alternator. The battery is still under warranty since I bought it new like 1 week ago. And I just ordered a new 90 amp alternator

Just had my Bumper to Bumper guy look up the Highest Amp Mitsu Alternator that would fit a 1G - Mine was about $150.00 - I run a 1 Farad Cap too with an El-Cheapo Battery.

- Max amperage 121 amps

- 100 amps at 3000rpm

- Max 1548 watts

- Manufacturer Ampere - P/N 21491

I put it on ramps & come from underneath - It's a PITA .

I just checked the battery voltage on my car. It's at 11 volts. Should I disconnect the negative battery terminal to "keep the battery votage up"? Why would the voltage be decreasing? I won't be able to put in the new alternator till Thursday morning.

Voltage decreasing is the nature of the battery when you are driving the vehicle with a bad alternator. The car uses battery power to fire the plugs, run the ECU, lights, etc. etc. Even if the car is just sitting up not being driven the battery will slowly die.

Ok, so I'm putting in my new 90 amp alternator tomorrow (if I get it via UPS Anyway, I'm hoping this solves ALL my electrical/dying type problems. What could cause a new alternator to go bad--if anything? I'd really hate to burn out this new alternator because I have an electrical short or something...
