Alright guys, Auto tranny question, Help!

Lately my transmission has been acting a little weird, it would slip by about 3-400 rpms when upshifting into 3rd so i changed the fluid/filter and added a little bit of lucas. The car ran fine for about a week after that and then started downshifting really hard, i figured ok, i probably didnt put enough fluid in it so i put a litle more fluid in. Then it wouldn't shift into 3rd gear. I had 1st and 2nd and nothing after 3rd. When i put it in overdrive it will just rev and not downshift/upshift. So now the transmission is comlpetely stuck in 2nd gear even when i put it in 1st and try to upshift it just stays in 2nd. It doesnt engage in reverse untill i rev it up to about 2-2500 rpms and then it will slam into reverse. I just bought a used TCU and swapped them out today and that didnt seem to work unless there is a proper way to reset the system. Its weird because when i just the car off and leave it off for a bit it will go in reverse and it will start in 1st and shift into 2nd but then after a little while of driving it just stays in 2ng gear and is hard to get in reverse. Please help !

Here is a little update about what was going on this morning. Put the car in drive to see if it would do anything and suprisingly it started off in first, then shifted to second but then it didnt shift, it just stayed in 2nd. I put it in L and tried shifting up manually and it shifted from 1st to 2nd then was stuck in 2nd again. Got to my house to pull in the garage and had to park the car to open the door then got back in the car and put it in drive and then it was stuck in 3rd gear so i put it in 2nd and it drove in 2nd gear but is stuck in 3rd when i put it in drive. Sounds confusing. Any help is appreciated.

icic, im having the same problem...sometimes ill have first and second and it wont shift into 3rd, then somtimes i have 2nd and third and it wont downshift to first and i have no overdrive....i tried changing my tcu but still did the same thing...i can figure it out either.. there are 1 or 2 fuses on the drivers side kick panel that are for the overdrive...its somthing electrical with my car because a few wires were pinched off and i had to wire them back up, let me know if you find anything and ill do the same

Sorry to say but with the complex nature of these things if it is not the TCU, you can try some stop-slip seal sweller but other than that disassembly or replacement required. If you have a service book for an auto trans, you can disassemble until you find the culprit, correct, and put it back together. Sometimes complete rebuilds are necessary. I've found some crazy things disassembling automatic transmissions, things that made me say 'wow no wonder why it wouldn't go into gear' with broken springs and missing things :O.
