The car is a 92 tsi awd. It has 116,xxx original and around 4000 on rebuild.
Upgrades are big 16g(running stock boost) and tubular manifold.
The car runs great with no problems at all.doesnt even surge at idle :)
Th problem comes in when I go wot. I get black smoke out the tail.
This only happens at wot.

Any ideas???????

Just b/c you hold boost fine doesn't mean you don't have leaks, it just means your turbo is working overtime to keep the same boost level. Use a boost leak tester hook it up to your turbo inlet and pressurize your turbo system with a compressor, spray everything down with soapy water to help aid in finding the leaks, and watch your boost gauge or the gauge on your tester(if it has one). Do this with the car off obviously, LOL. Common leaks are couplers, stock rubber piping, bov, throttle body seals, intake mani gasket injector seals, and so on. Re-test as explained and post your results. :thumb:

He said the car runs fine when not WOT. If he has a boost leak I would imagine that it runs like shit all the time. Of course a test never hurts, but maybe some other questions would be even more productive, such as . . .

What kind of fuel upgrades do you have?
What is your car tuned with?
Is it even tuned?

I mean, if you aren't getting any creep from that 16g at 11psi and you have no fuel upgrades at all - then I am kind of clueless as well, but are you sure about everything?

not to bicker or anything but his car is stock except a b16g and manifold. With a stock exhaust on a 16g you will not creep. Just to clarify, I have had a hole in my lower pipe off my j-pipe from rubbing the motor mount and I still made 20 psi without flucuation or drop in boost. I didn't know it was even there until I did my routine maintenance, weekly check-up.;)

You are right a major boost leak can cause the car to run terrible at all rpm's, but sometimes a small boost leak will sometimes not be detected until at WOT. I only suggested doing a boost leak test because it's an easy, cheap way to start narrowing down the possible causes.

Is your cat gutted? That will cause you to see all the richly burned carbon vapors from driving under WOT.. I know i can on mine and it's tuned almost dead on where i want it. Oh and no boost leaks here and i'm MAP instead of MAF :LOL

I have checked for boost leaks there are none. compression is also great.
I am deff. running rich. I have a question i have a 2g maf sitting here. If i install that will it lean it out to where is is suposed to be or will it be to lean?

Do not install the 2g maf, that will make your run very lean and destroy your motor. You keep saying your running rich so you must have a wbo2, what is your afr. I guess you are not running rich since you are pretty much stock. The turbo may be burning oil?

You need to solve your problem before you mod.

How long does it take for the intake track to bleed to zero pressure when running the boost leak test?
