Air bags on Dsm's [Merged 8-7] air springs suspension

there is a company in japan that made an air suspension to use in racing. bridgestone is currently designing an air ride system to enhance handling, not hurt it. so far they are only designing it for the wrx, but they are taking suggestions on other applications. looks to be very promising. the website is www.praxissystems.com

I want to install a new suspension system on my (currently stock) 2g N/T. I want it lowered, for obvious reasons, but i also need to be able to raise it up to get into my apartment. The speed bumps are massive and i don't want to F*** up the body. My question is which is better for performance? Air bag suspension, or hydraulics...i know there's probably amoney difference as well but i'm just concerned about which is best for handling and what not. Or are they both crap for handling?

Both options are so far from "performance" that I wouldn't bother considering either of them.

I agree. I was kinda wondering why it was posted here LOL.

I would ask them politely to reduce the size of the bumps.

if not pouring gas on them and setting them on fire repeatedly has a noticable deleterious effect on their structural stability, or a big 1ton slammed dually ripping on them...

At college I was able to get the speed bumps redone after I complained that it was damaging the exhaust on my MGB and providing receipts where I had had 2 exhausts fitted because of damage, and advising them that if they did not fix the speedbump to a height that allowed a stock height vehicle to go over, I was going to sue for the next set of repairs.

The added extensions on either side to make it much more gradual on some and shaved others down.

Or you can move.

or suck it up until you can move and not lower the car until then.

could it be possible to have both? For example, a REAL performance suspension system and then somewhere under there have a few hyraulics to lift it just for that purpose...or would it interfere with the other suspension?

I think i know the answer, but just in case there's something i don't know.

Ditto. Unless Praxis comes out with a performance airbag system for DSM's.

I like how we are telling this guy how to do his car. At what point did he asked us what we care about? We should be giving the poor guy our help, and if you dont want to help then leave the thread and go away. Dont be a tool.

Sorry but I see this alot in threads. People should mind there business unless they have some thing useful.

So for some body that is tring to put bags on his car saying "bags suck" is not very useful.

i have heard of "air bag" like systems, that still provide good handling, but you can raise and lower your car like air bags, but they dont provide a cadillac like ride like bags. I gotta admit, when i see a car or truck with the drivers side touching pavement and the other side in the air 4 or 5 inches... it looks sick.

dont be such a boob. this guy wants our opinions to help him decide. "bags suck" is an opinion, and helps him decide.

I guess it looks like i have to decide if i want to keep my car back home and have a good adjustable suspension, or have it here at my apartment with low performance air bags for the friggin speed bumps right? you guys are saying there's no getting both right?

too funny your in FL too, the speed bumps down here suck.

yea, not that ive seen yet.

for some reason I was of the understanding that performance was attainable with airbags. Considering they are optional on the wrx wagon so you can go from dirt to street. But I dont know, maybe all they make is shit for the eclipse.

What about the shocks with the airbag mounted directly to it, I heard those were good for cars, did i hear wrong?

How much performance are you looking for? I mean if you plan to go racing alot then they are not the best idea. But I mean just cruising around, your gonna look cool and your ride will be about as smooth as possible.

Aight here's what i want. Obviously the ability to raise and lower the chassis with a switch or a button. But at the same time (when lowered) have enough stiffness to be able to corner ok and stuff. No, i'm not taking this car to the races, not circuit racing anyway. If i ever get it to the point where i want that i guess i'll have to swap out supspensions. But if i'm at a red light and turning, i wanna be able to get after it when it goes green and not worry about hella body roll ####ing up my handleing. I guess that's it in a nutshell.

I have air cylinders on my 98 GS. The ride is absolutely horrible. The up-keep is a pain in the ass, and you can feel every single flaw in the road. Any road you thought was smooth before, believe me, they suck balls. Sure, you can get more parts to stifen up the ride, but it just requires more air to fill. Pump and tank combo's are annoying, and some/most pumps can eat a hole in your pocket. You won't bounce, you won't be able to move very much before the tank runs out (it's in a hatch, not a truck..tank sizes are limited), and you won't have good enough compressor to keep up with the fill rate versus emptying rate while you're playen.

Took me 3 days to install mine myself, and that was a crappy job. This would all also apply to airbags. Hydro's are, as you know, hydrolic. So, they use liquid. The bumps require batteries, then there's storage areas for the liquid, then there's the pumps, etc. etc. etc. Lines leaking..blah blah. It'd take even more room to put all those batteries and pumps, etc. in your trunk.

Believe me. Adjustable....you want coilovers. Lower it for days you go for performance, raise it for normal days.

Damn this sucks. I think i would rather just move. But i've already renewed my lease and they'd charge me 200 bucks if i broke the contract. Filthy bastards. Anyone out there have a good experience with bags?
