crappy air bag cover on 95 eclipse [Merged 7-7]

I found shoo goo doesn't really want to bond to METAL which is what the cover is bonded to. I also tried other adhesives and in MY CASE, the AB cover is just TOO warped for it to stay down, the cover itself is bad so it will never glue down. I guess I can thank the moron that owned the car before me for leaving the sun roof open in the rain and in the sun on triple diget days of summer. IF I had a new cover that laid flat than there is no doubt that I could simply glue it back on.

Oh well, it's on my to do list just like my window trim that has bleached out (armorall covers it up pretty damn good though).

the other day I was getting mad at my air bag cover and read how glue didn't work or whatever so I was t my dad's shop and found some epoxy, went home, put it on, clmped he corners down and the next day checked on it and it held :)
The stuff is called Power Poxy Plastic Bonder. It comes in a yellow/clear dual srynge that you have to mix for 30 seconds then you can use it. Just apply to the airbag cover and the dash part it attaches to and clamp it down. mine sat for 11hrs clamped and has gone a few days so far and not showing signs of letting up :thumb: you can get the stuff from either menards or lowes. just thought i'd post this up here to help out myfellow dsm'rs :thumb: :dsm: :talon: :laser: :dsm:

hmmmm, more that i think about it...i think mine may be getting that way. doubt it's sun tho, i keep my car garaged, have 5% limo tint and armor all that isht like every week. so i dunno.

A good friend of mine is attending upholstery and trim at Wyotech. He inquired about my airbag/defroster vents and how they are popping out. His instructor asked if anyone ever used armor all on the dash...

The armor all actually does more harm than good, it makes the dash stretch and crack.

who would have thought, armor all would do that to our dash. so what should we use to clean and treat our dashes?

the airbag cover (that vinyl piece that goes over the metal) has started to peel back at the edges. is there a way to fix this, or even take it all the way off, because i was looking at painting it, and didnt want to peel it off to find theres not an easy way to put it back on.

The same thing is happening to mine so if anyone knows a fix please speak up.

Haven't done it yet, but experiencing the same problems, I figure just get some fast drying epoxy, rip the whol ehting off, spread out the epoxy on the metal, lay it flat and apply equal pressure along the whole cover and let dry.

ya, i was kinda worrieda bout the airbag going off, or ripping the metal off along with it...

pull the bag and it an easy fix with it out.

i think he meant to pull it out of the car, and then fix it. I would probably just glue the vinyl back down.

you think i should drain the power to the air bag to be safe, or is there no way it would go off by just pulling the vinyl off? just dont want it goin off in my face.

No need to pull the bag temporarily, and a stupid idea to pull it permanently.

MAKE SURE you disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and let it sit for an hour or so before doing anything airbag related. The airbag won't deploy inless electricity is provided.

so thats all? ive hear about leaving your key to on for 30 minutes does the trick also

or you could just take the negative terminal off, and step on the brake pedal for a few seconds (or turn your headlights on.) Lightbulbs will drain out the current in the system quite quickly.

alrite i peeled the vinyl cover off, it was quite tuff actually. what do you guys thing would be the best to use to put it back on?

I found an alternative to the power poxy stuff because I couldnt find it anywhere. 3m super weatherstrip adhesive. its in a red & white tube and works really well. it also is easier to find. just thought id let you guys know.

when i did this, i peeled the whole cover off to glue it back down. i used contact cement, the kind in the glass bottle that you paint on. it held really well until the car sat in the sun, and the glue started melting... so has anyone found anything else that holds and doesnt melt?
