i just bought an ebay air filter and it did not come with directions. I have a 99 eclipse gst spyder and when you remove the stock airfilter where the MAS is there is also 4 bolts with a mesh screen. Do i remove the mesh for more airflow or leave it? thanks for you help?

You can run as big of an air filter as you want but the stock MAS is pretty restrictive as it is. You might as well switch over to a GM MAF which is 3.5 inches.

A guy on here made a comparison of his logs between stock MAF and GM MAF. He supposedly logged about 3lbs/min more with the GM MAF. I find that a restriction.

Thanks guys I have heard alot about the GM sensor upgrade and I cant see how it would be a bad idea. Like I said I have the Evo III 16g and I was just wanting to find out if it will get all the air it wants through the filter. I never thought about the MAF being restrictive though. Maybe it wont be a problem though because she is my daily driver and the max boost I run is around 17-21 psi and thats only when I wanna race :shhh:

And what was his setup? I highly doubt he had anything like a t25 or 16g. With a bigger turbo flower way more air than the op it may be a restriction.
If anything, the OP's air filter adapter is more restrictive than the mas, look at that neckdown on that thing!
I would suggest getting the vibrant adapter, with a 4.5 inch filter adaptor, considering the size of the stock mas is a 4.5 inch oval.

Switching to a GM MAF also introduces a large amount of error in airflow metering, unless he specifically calibrated it using a MAP sensor or wideband. 3 lbs/min is more than reasonably within said range of error.

The stock MAS will be more than enough for your setup--don't worry about it.

I have a 1997 GST, I have a Injen short ram air intake system, I need a replacement air filter I have been through 3 different types, all are to small? I have measured the inlet size at 4.5'', the ring around it is 5.0'', the base is 6 3/4''. the lenth is 5.0''. I ordered the same thing from Injen online and it was to small???? I am ready to rip it out and buy a whole new intake system , but before I do maybe someone can tell me what replacement filter size I need. or if I am just dumb and measuring it wrong, thank you
