i just bought an ebay air filter and it did not come with directions. I have a 99 eclipse gst spyder and when you remove the stock airfilter where the MAS is there is also 4 bolts with a mesh screen. Do i remove the mesh for more airflow or leave it? thanks for you help?

Leave the mesh. The mesh is also called the honeycombs, for obvious reasons. Removing them does produce more airflow, but can also produce some unwanted side-effects. The filter you bought should have come with an adapter plate that you bolt to the MAS with the four bolts. The other end of the adapter should be round and the filter should slide over that end.

The idea is that the incoming air is turbulent. Turbulent air is hard for the MAS to count accurately, which is important for your Air/Fuel ratio. The walls of the honeycombs create a uni-directional flow pattern for the air. It "straightens" the airflow so it's more uniform, thus the sensor can accurately count it.

has anyone seen the autozone spectre cone air filters that look like the k and ns...?
has anyone used them....are they any good....i have a 2g talon tsi...my car is stock except for a 14b swap....is this a good idea for $40 filter and maf adapter or should i just get an ebay one?

Go for the Autozone one man.. I work there ha ha:thumb:.. I would rather put one of my socks to filter out the air my baby breathes before going to ebay..:beatentodeath: Ha ha I am just kidding I actually used an ebay filter for a long time and no problems.. It actually looked like the Spectre one they have at Autozone too, without the "Spectre" logo..:shhh:
GOOD LUCK!!

ok so the adapter and filter should be good ....can i just make my own intake tube to turbo out of intercooler pipe or something

i know i shouldn't be asking this i probably sound really stupid, but here goes anyway. Does anyone know where i can find an air filter for a 5 inch intake adapter. most air filter i find only go up to 4 inches

The largest one I can find is 4.5" ID, from ExtremePSI. Where did you find a MAS adapter that goes up to 5" anyway?

If all else fails, they have the filter and adapter for 4.5" for $42. 4.5 inch filter

it was on the car when i bought it 3 years ago. he said the filter is reusable but i wanted to replace it anyway. yeah i haven't changed it in 3 years but i have cleaned it numerous times but still want to replace it with a quality product.

oh and there is no name on it so i can't tell where its from so im confused. and i haven't seen him since i bought the car.

Injen uses a 5" adapter with there intakes. I needed a new filter and the only place I could find one was from K&N. Go on there site and get the part number and take it to your local Autozone or whatnot and have them order it for you.

Better yet, here is the part number. RU-5147

is your intake still the rubber hose to the maf then the cone? or do you have a hard pipe from the turbo to the maf?

Hello everyone, I have a bit of a situation and I need some advice from the people that have experience with this kind of stuff. I ordered an intake kit from ebay and I also ordered one of Amsoil's new universal induction air filters (conical). Now the kit from ebay arrived today BUT it was supposed to come with a 4 1/2 inch filter adapter (which wasn't supplied) which is the same size as my Amsoil filter. Now I will have to wait and either-
A).Order a 3 inch filter from Amsoil
B).Order an adapter

My question is will the ebay supplied air filter be a safe choice to use until I get my Amsoil filter or should I completly stay away from the thing? One more quick question, my GS-T has the Big 16g turbo. Would the 4 1/2 inch filter be overdoing it and should I stay with the 3 inch? I really appreciate you guys without you I'm not sure my DSM would be running LOL. Thanks you rock :thumb:

Okay thanks bro I plan on installing it today. Hopefully it will make my turbo sing louder :rocks:. I am still wondering about going up a step to the 4 1/2 inch filter though. Any input?

The filter size really doesn't matter. The turbo is only going to suck so much air in. You can't supply to much air to a turbo.

Pre-compressor restrictions are more detrimental to overall flow and spool of the turbo than post-compressor. The element with the most filtering surface area has the least amount of resistance and has yielded the best benefit for me. Does the 4" outlet filter have a larger element? If not, then it's not going to be of benenfit unless you run a 4" intake pipe for something like a turbo with antisurge ports and a 4" inlet.

Yeah the filter element is bigger. I'd say about 20% more surface area and that's a rough rough estimate. Thanks for the help. I think I will go ahead and order the filter adapter since I already purchased the filter and all.:sneaky:

Okay so I finally got to do my install yesterday and I'm not sure if it is just my kit or if this happens to others but everything shifted over about 2 inches so there is no way that my Amsoil filter will fit. The dimensions are a 4 1/2" flange and the filter element is 6 inches long. Here is a pic just to show how little room I have. Actually, I have no room whatsoever after installing my intake.

As you can see, I am pretty much maxed out for my filter size. I am just going to order a smaller filter from Amsoil. The dimensions are a 3 inch flange and the filter media is 5 inches long. The only thing is that the filter media has a slightly larger diameter. I'm pretty sure it is 5 inches top OD and my current filter is about 4 inches top OD. Do you guys think that this is big enough to let my turbo have as much air as it wants?
