OKK, so I rebuilt my motor for the first time and now up and running, withh an oil leak, and runs like crap. But anyways it leaks about a quart every 2 minutes...don't worry I didn't let it run that long! I replaced the front main, oil pump seal, and oil filter housing gasket. It looks like its coming out of the front main seal but it's hard to tell because there is oil all over the front case! I noticed that of the two bolts on the auto tensioner, the bolt on the left was covered in oil. Now, when I built the engine, the BSEK came with a full circle bearing a large and small freeze plug and the stub. The large freeze plug was installed behind the small one in the block which is in the top left corner...that plug was installed and then driven all the way through and then installed again into the block. Could that possibly be the oil leak?? Help guys!

....I've started this car probably 5 times since I put the engine back in and the stubby shaft was torn up! Thanks guys. I pushed the freeze plug out by hand so it couldn't have been making a good seal, plus there's like a million small cracks in the back to the front cover. I put STM's block off bearing in the front there and im getting a new case from my buddy I work with tomorrow, I plan on getting it back together tomorrow...supposed to be 50 outside...hope it stops leaking!

Yeah sometimes when they pound in the core plug they split the raised lip around the front balance shaft. This causes the block off plug to fall out/ leak badly and not seal tightly. Make sure to get the a stub shaft with the oil groove like the STM kit. And REMEMBER to use assembly lube when installing the stub into the oil pump.

Another good front balance shaft cap is this OEM one. The Mitsu Dealer can order one for you for like 7 or 8 dollars.

Use permatex red threadlock/core sealant to seal the BSE plug and make sure you spend 3x the amount of time cleaning/scraping/drying BOTH surfaces before you put the front case back on. Also make sure you lube the oil pump and spin it manually with a ratchet to ensure there is no binding. If the stub shaft was torn, there is a big chance it was installed incorrectly and you don't want that happening again. Lastly, install the gasket dry or with some copper spray to ensure a good seal. DO NOT RTV it.
