ok, i just got the whole engine completly done and reconnected yesterday. today i disabled the spark and fuel to prime it up by cranking it, and the gauge reads 0, so i hook a mechanical guage, and it reads 0. what the heck did i do wrong!

well the only thing i can honestly think of woudl be that when i took the pump apart and cleaned it in the solvent tank, that it prevented oil from being sucked up because of the air pockets in the lines

Respectfully I do not agree, you could have substituted water and it should have primed if the pickup pipe/tube with the gasket had made a complete seal.

Now if you had dried and blown free of any liquid (dry) then I would agree you would be pressing your luck and endangered the oil pump. That is a lack of information on your part and certainly would not have been anything a professional would have done.

Actually I was more getting at you had several people giving advice including friends which was taking your attention away from some basics and how much that detracted from your understanding and focus?

#3 posted in red says don't guess and yet we get "that happened to me too" and bla bla bla as if that is something you should base a $30,000 rebuild. We are up to post 50+ when it should have been solved by post 10. If true well you lost 2 weeks out of your life, lots of lessons to be learned.

Cheers,
GTM

I truly believe there is hope for you yet. :)

But you _must_ have a mind set of a bear trap, anything else will let you down. And I'm not setting myself up as somehow better than you at your age. You have taken a lot of garbage in this series of posts to your credit and I am sure I've tossed out some of those. You must challenge everything you do, argue with self and then KNOW you are on solid ground.
..........

You came here with legit questions asking for understanding, you did not favor any logical answers over others, you had a set of problems which got worked through with an open mind and anyone that gives you negative points for an unusual problem had best discuss it with me. I do make a distinction between not knowing and ignorance and there is nothing here based on ignorance and if someone does that then it should be reviewed.

Cheers,
GTM

congrats on getting the oil pumping. Always remember to resort to the basics first before getting in over your head. Always double check your work.

Also, why didnt your teacher mention priming the pump?
