Whats up everyone. I'll run you through the motor specs first and then tell you the details on my problem.

I bought a 95 Hyundai Sonata block, stripped it down, sent it to the machine shop, and had it cleaned, dipped, milled, o ringed, and bored. The car is a 2g gst, and Im using a 2g head. The conversion is a success, the car fired right up on half a crank it seemed. I noticed after 30 seconds or so that the lifters were not pumping up so I pulled the valve cover cap and saw that it was looking pretty dry. Take into consideration I pulled the injector plugs and coil plug and cranked the motor over a good amount to prime it up. I decided to pull the oil filter and it was dry as a bone, and also my oil feed to the turbo which Im running from the oil filter housing is also dry as a bone. Now the pump Im using came with the block, I pulled the cover off and cleaned everything very meticulously and inspected the pump gears. Everything looked great and it turned smooth once I installed my bse kit, so I didn't see the need to buy a new pump.

Well, I know that everyone is going to say that I should have purchased a new pump in the first place, and yes I should have, but when everything seemed to be in perfect condition I just couldn't justify it. Im not really sure where to go from here, should I pull it apart and buy a new front cover with the pump? Should I do anymore checks? I have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and it didn't even flinch when I fired it up. Any suggestions?

Did you buy block off bearings for your balance shafts? Or did you rotate your old balance shaft bearings to block the oil passages? That would create very low oil pressure situation. Maybe your oil pickup is not picking up anything, or maybe it wasn't torqued down and fell off. Those are some ideas that come to mind, hope it helps.

Hmmm. that's odd...Assuming there's an oil pickup and it's not blocked off. Did you pack the oil pump iwth grease to aid in priming before you assembled the motor? When i forget to pack my oil pump ( 2 builds ago) i had to put a 14mm socket on a cordless drill to rotate teh oil pump enough to build pressure without having a dry motor running to do it.

It took a good minute or two to get oil up to the head, but it did work without being "primed" I say pull the T-belt, and do what i did and see if you can get some oil before tearing it back apart only to find everything is okay (well, i'm hoping it's okay and you just need some more time on the prime)

Im sure everything is fine on your motor. I quoted glenn because this is exactly what I did after my build. I put it all together started no pressure. my sending unit was hooked up. I did pack the pump with assembly lube but still didnt have pressure. Ran a drill on the oil pump until oil come out the lifters, i observed this with the valve cover oil cap off. After I did that, it worked like a champ. good luck
