Ok so I did the BSE kit and im still having trouble keeping oil in the oil pan  Now when I did it and drove it for a little I noticed that there was oil streaming down the crossmember right below the front case. Although I couldnt pin point where it was coming from. I took the timing cover and STILL couldnt find it! So im taking the cover back of and redoing every gasket. I used rtv on the tensioner bolt and the cap to cover the hole for the front balance shaft is also not leaking. So my guess is that the actual gasket is leaking off the side somewhere.

Now heres the real question, Do I use rtv with a gasket on the front case and the oil filter housing? Because I used both and I think maybe I didnt let it sit long enough so the rtv didnt completely set up right.

DO NOT use rtv on the front cover or filter housing gaskets. Also make sure that both have the old gasket 100 percent removed. Did you remove the plug above the oil pump sprocket? If so did you make sure to re-install the o-ring? Did you replace the crank and oil pump seals? Did you use a gasket on the oil pan or did you use rtv?

Ok that is nice to know about the rtv. Vfaq I dont think specified to use it or not. I bought a new front case when I put it on the first time so every seal was new. Im gonna inspect the seals when I get it off. The o ring for the castle plug was brand new too, but I get a new one when the gaskets come so Ill just replace it. And for the oil pan I used just ultra grey rtv but it wont seal up either. I tried 4 times LOL So I think im gonna use both a gasket and rtv for that.

I think also if I leave the rtv set up for an entire day without it seeing any oil is a good idea:hmm:

If you can't get the pan sealed with grey rtv than you are doing it wrong. Do not use a gasket on the pan. Clean both surfaces well. Remove all of the old rtv, make sure to get the groves on the pan flange, that is what holds the rtv in place. Before you install the pan you will want to wipe both surfaces down with acetone, paint thinner, brake cleaner, or something that evaporates fast. You want no oil on either surface. You also need to make sure that the pan flange is flat. From there spread an even coating of rtv all the way around the pan. You don't have to use a lot. Just about a mm thick coating will do. You DO NOT want to let it set up at all, you want to install it instantly and torque the bolts. It will not bond properly to the block and pan if you let it set up. If you do it like this it will be 100 percent sealed and it will never leak. Also you do need to let the rtv cure for 24 hours before putting any oil in it.

Pump the brakes here and go back to the basics.
Take the timing cover off, soak everything in brake clean. Start it up with the wheel removed and on a creeper and watch to see where the leak develops.
