I have looked around and I haven't seen about aftermarket steering wheels.
I'm picking up my first DSM this weekend and I was wondering about a new steering wheel and what the pros and cons would be.

So far all I can think of is..
PRO's:
New shiny wheel without PO slime
Stiffer wheel

CON's:
No airbag

I put an Evo steering wheel in my car. A lot more comfortable to drive with, though its not "new" as it came out of a 7-10 yr old car.

They're anywhere from $50-150 depending on where you shop, and its pretty easy to install it since you're coming from a 1g wheel.

Yes the evo wheel is a great upgrade!

Ive got mine but im just trying to find a 1g wheel so I can take the spline section out of it as you need to swap them over as the evo one I think are to small for our shafts

You list a 90 in your profile. No airbag to lose.

Pros: Not the size of a large pizza.
Cons: Cheap is deadly

Is the 1g OEM wheel floppy? My 2g one was pretty stiff. I can tell you my NRG wheel is flimsy when pushing and pulling, but works just fine in turning (which is why to me the flimsiness is a non-issue).

For me a huge pro is that the wheel I chose is much smaller in diameter, making for much quicker steering response. I.e. I have to turn the wheel much less physically to have the wheels pointed where I want. I hated the truck driver original steering wheel :)

A con of going smaller though was that it occludes my dash a bit. This isn't a huge deal for me as my car is pretty much a track only car , but I can't see my turn signals and parts of my speedometer and odometer are cut off from view. This could be a bit annoying for some.

I also lost the cruise control controls but I don't need them again since this is a track car. On a 2g though these can be relocated to the column so that's not a huge deal.

Just a FYI, most decent quality (Momo/Nardi/OMP/Sparco/etc) wheels don't flex. Cheap brand wheels will.

Also 1G controls the cruise/etc all on the stalk.

So my main concern would be smacking my face on the wheel if I ever wrecked. Is that not an issue when wearing a belt? Last time I was in an accident (as a passenger) the bag hit me hard.

Deadly as in the loss of a steering wheel and control?

Put a quick release on the wheel and it prevents theft being so easy!

I would want a quick release on mine.

Also dont buy a cheap wheel, because if it breaks off (literally) on you when driving... good luck.

Only get aftermarket like Sparco for example if you are someone that needs it like a drag person, if you want for just driving around and hitting track once in a while go with the evo steering wheel. Clean, comfortable, nice looking.

I have a Grant wheel and love it. That's another option as well. I like mine because I'm tall and the stock 2g is huge. Also my wheel has father son sentimental value.
I took cruise control out so I don't care about losing that. But I will say at first it was hard to see the very top of the gauge cluster but I soon got used to it. I say go for it!

Enjoy. This is not a lone video, by the way. Avoid knockoffs at all costs.

I need a new steering wheel because mine bent in my hands when I totaled my first car(I gripped the wheel really tight apparently). The Belt stopped my face from hitting the wheeI. I have been thinking about it but haven't really done the research so this helps.

Thank you for changing at least one person's mind! So glad I didn't pull the trigger on another bad purchase. You get what you pay for, right?

Get the evo8 steering wheel and then you don't have to worry about the airbag and it still looks clean af, there's also a guy somewhere here in the forums that sells the hub adaptor for them and it wasn't too much.
