advise need asap on rear diff

i just heard some interesting news seems the evolution 3 to 8 use the same exact rear diff can anyone shed some light on this for me?

this is the final part of my build so i need to get it right

Jacks transmissions would probably be the best people to ask. I doubt that is true considering the gearing is most likely gonna differ from the generations.
