Hey guys, I know it's kinda been covered but I'm wondering if anyone has learned some new tricks lately. Like they wish they would have gone with l-19 studs instead of reg.I'm rebuilding my 1g with 6 bolt and I sent the block off and the shop said I should replace my pistons, so I was going to go .20 npr 2g on 6 bolt rod. I would love to hear any machining tricks anyone had learned to do to these bad engines. I read about both oiling mods and have done other extensive research about other engine builds. But I'm not looking to spend a ridiculous amount, but I'm not gonna cheap out on things that are crucial. Looking for a responsive, durable street killer. I have an e3 16g right now but I'm sure it won't be long before I want more. Like should I bull nose my crank and remove parting lines then have it balanced, or is that over kill? Thanks

I wouldn't do too much with the crank other than remove the balls and clean the passages and polish it. You can have them balance it, but they are usually pretty good from what i have found. I would also just go with the 1g pistons instead of the 2g pistons. It can be hard finding a machine shop that has the ability to increase the size of the small end of the rod.

Good call, but not only would the compression bump help me, I heard the piston is designed better. Like a thicker top ring land. Maybe I should send the rods to on of this site's sponsor shops? I'm in New England so there must be some one close. Another opinion, you think getting every little casting dimple or imperfection will help with pre or auto ignition? I'm worried the edges of even the smallest getting hot easier then surrounding metal and possibly becoming a problem at higher power. Am I being overly anal about it?
