Advance Auto Parts (Ready-Aire) heater core, beware

Bought one of these because my heater core was clogged. Well it didn't come with any foam insulation around it whatsoever, and it's 1/4" smaller in width and height, so a lot of foam insulation is needed. Then on top of it the heator core leaks. So tomorrow I have to call off work, which seems to happen a lot anyway, and rip it out. I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet. I might just find the crack and solder it because the part takes 2 days for them to get. Now my carpet smells like coolant. How do you get that smell out?

Rent a carpet steam cleaner from a grocery store, I watched a DIY video on youtube. its called minimods, these uk guys gave a demo how detailers get carpets so clean. If this don't work out just febreeze it alot.

Cool, thank you for that information. I ripped it all apart last night and couldn't see any leaks from the core itself. It seemed like it was spraying out of the hose from the engine bay into the car. Hopefully this was it and I tightened the hell out of them. We shall see. But still, people beware of the difference and be prepared for some creative foam insulation artwork.

how much is one of those auto parts heaters? im saying cause i got one i just pulled off my car that works perfectly. it actually made me sweat my ass off in the cold

Their site says $49.99 but it was $54.99 at the store. Autozone is about the same, and NAPA is up around $80. I was hoping the get one of the aluminium ones, but this was copper.

We bought a new heater core (not from a parts store) for a Mustang, and in a short time it was leaking worse than the old one.

thats why i dont shop at autozone or advance. carquest everytime. people who actually know their shit and they arent a "fast food" of car parts. brand names like moog raybestos k&n etc. and they get all their stuff same day or next day

Whenever I get suspension stuff from the auto parts stores I make sure it is Moog. They make stuff that is far superior to OEM, and they are serviceable.

I got 2 from advance and i just bought another lost the receipt lifetime warrany, never had a problem with the core. Everyone is different.

It was just a hose clamp...damn factory hose clamps feel tight to tighten but aren't clamping tight. I'm an ass.

Also, to add, my old heater core is clogged by what appears to be copper particles from something like radiator stop leak. PO fail.

Whenever I get suspension stuff from the auto parts stores I make sure it is Moog. They make stuff that is far superior to OEM, and they are serviceable.

You guys realize that the cheaper parts-store brand is reboxed moog stuff right? That level of production is like batteries, there are only about 3 companies that have the resources to produce them.

The price difference usually comes in the form of warranty or a grease zerk.

I use RockAuto for most of my parts. Just had to do 2 S10 heater cores. 1 killed the carpet, the other didn't. I'd also change the heater core hoses if they are original. I actually like using universal hose, you can make a straighter run.
