ACT clutch / Fidanza problems

I just installed a new ACT 2600# clutch and Fidanza flywheel on my 2g GSX


I have COMPLETELY bled it out, and clutch pedal adjustment is as far as I can go. (the clevis pin is fine and I am about 7" from pedal to firewall, also)

Why do I not have enough clutch? whith clutch pedal fully depressed, upon attempt to shift into any gear, we start to move!

what have I overlooked, or done wrong?

It's not a problem with your new clutch/flywheel unless the flywheel step is incorrect. You did check it didn't you? The design of the stock clutch actuation and pedal assembly leaves a lot to be desired.

First, be absolutely sure the master and slave cylinders are in good working order and don't leak at all. A stainless steel clutch line to replace the stock one will also help.

Second, be sure the adjustment is correct. Do you have an extended clutch adjuster rod or some other mod to get a little more adjustment out of it?

Third, if you're going to run a 2600 it is highly recommended to weld and bush your pedal assembly to cope with the added force of the high pressure clutch and eliminate the slop and weakness inherent in the stock design.

Mitsubishi designed a wonderful engine and AWD layout for our cars but fell flat on it's face as far as the trans/clutch/shifter goes! We just have to find ways to work around those shortcommings.

Even if your step is incorrect you should still be able to get disengagement unless it is COMPLETELY off. Step mainly has to do with the holding ability of your clutch. Did you shim your clutch pivot ball? Can you pull the clutch pedal up with your foot?

Not True! The step height is critical to proper clutch operation. Too little (shallow) and the clutch will hold power great but it will have trouble releasing. You won't have enough room for the pressure plate to fully retract. The pressure plate only moves a small amount when the pedal is depressed.

It is a critical dimension in our DSM world. Don't pass it off as unimportant.

point of fact: Fidanza Aluminum flywheels are stepped at .610, to make sure of this I had Mine checked.

I also have a ACT 2600, however my situation is a little different, mine Looses pressure over time, have to rebleed, so some where im getting air in the system or somethin.

IMO ACT clutches a pieces of shit, buy a SBR clutch or a X-clutch from RRE 1/2 the pedal pressure to disenguage, easyer on thrust bearings and clutch hydraulics. EFF ACT
 
Lord-Gufi I disagree with you that ACT clutches are shit, your problem is that you have you keep bleeding you clutch system, and you keep losing pressure. Find your problem in your system and you wont have to keep rebleeding it. Check for leaks in your system.

Fidanza has been known to let bad flywheels (step height) through QC.

No, the problem is dumbasses like yourself expect all parts to be bolt on compatible with any other aftermarket part. You should always check clearances, tolerances, step height's, etc on any part before you install it, and you wouldn't have issues. I ran a Fidanza flywheel in my car just fine on a Competition Clutch, which is also for sale. Gufi is right, ACT is junk IMHO.
 
Dude settle down with the harassment. It is not needed. Anyways I have had the same problem as yourself, with the same products. I did not check my flywheel step when I installed it, but did when I had to take the tranny out. THe step was fine for me, but I have personally seen flywheels from fidanza that are eithe to shallow or vice versa. What I decided to do was replace every part that has to deal with the clutch. I found the pivot point on the pedal assembly to be worn. And my 93 has only 50,000 miles on it

Wow, okay, name calling..

I DID check clearances, hence why I didn't have a problem. If you had the mental ability to put two and two together you would see that the underlying meaning to what I said was ALWAYS CHECK YOUR CLEARANCES.

Better aluminum. 7075 T-6 billet vs 6061 T6 billet. better machining, better construction riveted friction plate vs phillips head screws threaded into aluminum which scares me in a high heat, high vibration , and limited access area..

Maybe for a street only driven car.

If so get an ACT streetlight....

If not cut the weight and get the SSG. You just cant kill it. Fidanza does'nt make flywheels that fit a powerstroke diesel and live in conjuction with sintered iron and the tq of sequential twins. SSG makes some tough sh&t.

Simply put a well tuned drag car with good sized turbo can kill a driveline if launched to hard no matter how light a flywheel due to brute power. A track launch at this power level really does'nt need much stored momentum in the flywheel because you are pushing the limits of the trans anyway... Slip launch...... right? Lower powered cars might need it.. but if your ET's mandate SFI just get a light flywheel.

With a AWD dsm's low first gear normal street driving is'nt that bad. You need to get used to it yes but it wont take long.

If you bled it with proper method and there are no leaks, you need to check your pedal for play. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96981 You're basically not generating enough pressure for the ACT2600.
 
have you replaced the master clydr at all. cause when i replaced mine is was not the right one the rod for the clutch pedal was too small so i put my old master back in and bled it one more time before i went crazy. well it worked. go to sddsm.org and search for x-clutch or/and look for superdave post/reply and you will see my story of what happen and what i did. good luck man
