About to buy/review Forge BOV, Question

So would this be the equivalent to a 1g but holds more boost?

I know mine leaks under vacuum and I get an annoying whistle, I just want to be sure none of you guys have this problem, otherwise, it defeats the purpose.

Kyle,

It fits on the 1G flange and with the spring kit, you can tweak it to hold more boost. On the other end, if you crush a 1G with a MityVac handy, you can have it hold 26psi or more. Just make sure the MityVac reads about 19-20 in./hg and you'll be good. For show quality and functionality, the Forge is an excellent piece though.

Hope that helps,

Andy

So is anybody else having problems with the screws in this being rounded out? I just got it brand new, I'd hate to think that it came like that straight from the factory. Then again though, the springs & shims are looking pretty worn out, so I'm questioning their history...

My springs look worn, too. I think thats just the way they are painted period. Like they were just quickly sprayed to be identifiable.

As for the screw holes mine are ever so slightly rounded, but not bad. Like they dont look worn, just like the holes were casted that way. I have not tried to unscrew them though.

Make sure you are using the correct allen key on the screws. I thought the same at first but like I said it turned out to be just using the wrong allen key. I've probably removed the top 10 times without any problems. My springs looked the same, more then likely they are just quickly sprayed for identification purposes only. Their probably stored in boxes with a tonn of other springs causeing the paint to be chipped off.

Just got mine in the mail as well! Mine came with the Yellow spring installed. I think I will leave it in for street use, and then put in the red on race days. My springs also have flaky paint on them, but I don't really care. As long as it works!

I got mine from ExtremePSI. They have them for 165, with the springs and shims, and free shipping. Best deal I found on the net so that's where I got it from.

Not to bring a old thread back up but would be pointless on starting a new one since ive gather almost all the info I need on this bov except, how it sounds...
Does anyone else have any videos of their cars, or other cars with this bov installed?
Or even personal opinions on the sound vs the stock 1g bov or hks.
The only thing holding me back from purchase at this point is sound as i am picky with that. I want one louder than my modded 1g bov but no were near as loud as some of the others... ( My 1g bov ( has dejon mod) is barely audiable just makes a faint whoosh) Thanks....

i don't have a vid, but i for one love the sound. I had a crushed 1g on mine, it wasn't loud enough so i borrowed my friends RFL... holy shit that was loud, LOL. I ended up getting this w/o listening to it and it's a very ice in between. a little less than half way i think. But then again i'm only running 14psi until i get my engine redone.

IMO the Forge was the best sounding valve of the ones I have run, which include a 1g, a Greddy Type RS & an HKS SSQV, when run recirculated. I would say the Forge was the loudest of the bunch in recirculated form, but still not extremely loud. Compared to a 1g valve I would say it makes more of a psssst sound, where as the 1g I would say is more like a wooosh sound, if you can make any sense from that :D

I agree with Daren, I love my Forge valve. Not to mention it comes with different spring rates (at least it did from ExtremePSI). Another way to describe the sound would be "mechanical". Just a loud release of air. For instance, to me, the Greddy's and HKS's sound like they purposely over pronounce and modify the sound, while the Forge just lets it out, like air being released from a compressor at high speed. Because the air releases so much faster than the 1G, it's the same basic sound properties, but louder and faster, with a bit more echo.

I have a couple of dyno video's with mine, I will try to remember to fish them out this weekend.

Ok Thanks... Im going to be running 20lbs, so I take it this will be a pretty audiable bpv.

yes I did, thanks for the response. Exactly what I wanted to hear.

True...

I've got an unrelated question about the forge bov. How tall is it from the bottom of the flange to the top of the "hat"? My 1g bov comes pretty close to the hood and I was curious b/c I was thinking about this bov.

Click here to see a photo Daren took a while back. If you really want a measurement (and if no one else beats me to it) I'll take a measurement for you.

It looks like it would be pretty close. Would you mind measuring it for me?

Sure. The uncrushed 1G BOV is 2 and 9/16ths inches tall. And the Forge 1G RV is close to three inches tall. Maybe 2 and 15/16ths inches.

Thanks a lot. I'll have to take some measurements and see if it'll fit under my hood now.

This comes up every now and again but I can assure you that the springs and the shims do look like that when new. You are correct when you guess that the springs are just quickly sprayed for identification purposes and the shims sit in boxes with hundreds, if not thousands of others, and the surfaces get marred. Doesn't effect how they function.

As for the screws... they do have a chamfer on the top, that could be what you are seeing. Just make sure to use the correct size allen. If they are really screwed up (that was a pun) just drop us a line and we can send you some new ones.

Heres some pics ill courteously add of my forge so that yall can compare with.
And mines came from extremepsi, i opened it up last weekend and it had the yellow spring in it.
It held 20psi fine so i didnt bother opening it before, and no surging or flutter that i can tell. There was a green and blue spring also included with my bov purchase.

It's nice, but mine leaked at the base where it swivels if turned at the exact angle I needed it turned on my 2g. I was doing a boost leak test and anything much over 15psi leaked.

I heard of a revised snap ring to fix this, but got no response from Forge regarding it.

Anyone have any details on that?
