Hello, I'm new here.. New to turbos, not to cars.

So, I grabbed up a 92 Talon FWD Turbo from a friend who let it sit for a good 4 years or so. He doesn't have a clue about cars, or anything to do with this. I've been finding things out as I go.

Last year, I got it to start when he still had it, but the ECU was blown to sh*t. It ran horrible. He bought an ECU for it, and it turned out to be for an AWD A/T. I plugged it in, a year later and I can't get it to start. Last night I finally got some motivation and drained the gas, replaced with high test and some sea foam. Just cranks and cranks. put some gas in the throttle body and it sounded like it really wanted to go, and I got some smoke out the tailpipe, so obviously I'm getting spark. Anyways, I know the basic troubleshooting.. I will continue tonight and see how the filter, etc is. What I really need to know, is if this AWD A/T ECU will work. Obviously the A/T turbo is smaller, so any tips to what I should change are very much welcome.

Basically the only thing I know about the car currently is 3" turbo back exhaust, rebuilt top end, and correct timing. He claims the guy he bought it from said there was a bigger turbo in it, so I will confirm that tonight and update.

Thanks!

It sounds like the only thing that was from an automatic car was the "spare" ECU. You seem to have the stock 14b and there's a good chance you have the stock 450cc injectors so once you have the replacement MD166260 you should be good to move forward and find out what else needs attention.
When I cleaned the injectors I looked up the part number and they came up at 390cc.

it'll say right on the injectors what CC they are if they're mitsu units. One side will show the part number the other the injector size, also the colour of the injector is a tell tail sign.

I didn't see anything that said the size, I will look again. But I looked up one of the numbers and everything that came up was 390cc. And they are black, number INP-008

The other side of the injector from where you found the INP-008 has the size. It will have B390L on the auto injectors and B450L on the ones from the manual cars just so you know.

What's still unclear is what fuel pressure regulator you have since you seem to have a mismash of parts.

I'll check the other side tonight and see. And yeah, the only thing I have identified is that it is dented, but as you said it's not an accurate way of determining which it is.

I have run the auto car with 390cc injectors and 5 speed ECU. was surprised to see A/F were spot on. you have a far greater problem than small mismatch of parts.

Yeah, I'm not overly happy about the Frankenstein someone put together 4+ years ago and failed. Its been that long since it has ran properly. Thankfully I never really had huge expectations from it, but its in amazing shape for being in the rust belt so hopefully I can make something decent out of it once I figure out all this bullshit.

An fpr will play a huge factor as well, like Steve mentioned check which model fpr you have. If you have the funds you should just buy a afpr like an areomotive or fuellab unit from the classifieds, they're very afford-able "used". Definitely look into it, my stock one went bad a few months back....the difference in the way my engine ran before to after my afpr install was night and day!
I did see a thread on fpr identification i'll try and find it for your browsing pleasure.

My life has been in uproar, so I'm never going to have the time or money to put into this.. Putting it up for sale.
