Back in 2004 I experience rod knock shortly after buying a 94 Talon AWD from a friend. My brother helped me take the motor out and we took it to a local shop to get rebuilt. 900 miles later the rod was knocking again. I'm out $1,000.

In 2005, a mechanic friend of mine recomended a legendary DSM shop called "Jacks" that I had not heard about here in Colorado Springs. Unluckily for me there are 2 automotive shoped called "Jacks" and I ended up taking it to the wrong one. They did a horrible job and completely ripped me off. I'm out another $1,000.

I finally get hooked up with the right Jack who finally sets me straight and gets the motor rebuilt the right way for something like $800.

Over the next 2 years my friend and I slowly put the car back together, but we never actually finish, but we did manage to install a new small 16g and 17" lightweight wheels.

Now in February 2011, I have a good paying job and I'm done with college and I decide to finally get the Talon driveable again. Here is what I'm working with:

Turns out "Jacks" is still around (and way more popular)so I decide to let them finish putting the car back together so I can have a fresh start.

I finally have it back so I don't waste any time modding. I start by removing the emissions, cruise control, and installing a new intake pipe.

Everything is all good. I'm hapily breaking in the motor and enjoying driving the talon after 5 years.

BUT!!!!! A friend of mine decided to buy a Skyline! Oh this Mut$# ^%&ka. I went from having the fastest car between all of my friends (faster than a mostly stock Supra and Mustag GT) to being so slow I might as well be driving a golf cart!!!

He's got 4 wheel steering, twin turbos, custom tune, and a bunch of other s%$t and his car is FAST!

So I decide to get my act together and step up my game. The Talon can hang with the Skyline but it needs a lot more mods first! For now I am focusing on matching him on power and just leave the suspension for later.

So I used some grad school loans to pay for ECMlink

and a VRSF FMIC.

ECMlink, BOOM, installed.

FMIC, not so easy. I followed this tech article (1g-vrsf-fmic-install) and I installed a new fuel filter (whats-difference-between-1g-2g-fuel-filter), new oil pressure sending unit, cleaned the headlights, painted the heat shields, dash trim, and windshield wipers, installed (1) push fan, and a new radiator with hoses. I also followed this (boost-leak-test-how-boostpro-net-tester) to maske a boost leak tester and I watched the Jafro videos on Youtube to help me figure out how to do the boost leak test Boost Leak Testing 201: Using the Tool and Boost Leak Testing 202: Hair Spray). I am still working on a custom mount for my coolant overflow bottle and then I will finally be done with my FMIC install. (Updates to come later)

I am too anxious to drive the car so later I will smooth out the bumper, reinforce the crash beam (since I had to trim it), and install a front mounted license plate frame.

In order to catch that damn Skyline I still need a AFPR, new injectors, wideband A/F logging and a tune using ECMlink. After that we might have to stage a little race....

I've had this Talon for 6 years and I've put on maybe 10,000 miles. But don't give up. I'm glad I never gave up on this car.

looks good man id go with 1000cc so you want have to upgrade yours later when your skyline friend turns up the boost LOL.keep up the good work.

Lucky for me he's pretty scared to do any modifications to the Skyline because it is so expensive to fix if anything goes wrong. Also its pretty cool that my car cost 15% of what his cost and I'll be able to match his power input without too much trouble (hopefully).
