OK From what I understand... The turbo and non-turbo engines have the same code, 4G63. I have a 91 turbo Talon AWD and there is a possibility that I may need to replace the engine. Can I take a non-turbo engine and put it in my car? (Of course w/ all turbo parts on it). If I can, how practical is it?

Is there a possible write-up on this? Or is it pretty much strait-forward? I've never worked on the internals of an engine, but I'm curious about the compression ratio being different on the turbo and non-turbo engines. Thanks for the help.

im not sure about the compression ratios i think the 6 bolts are 7.8:1 or something around there. i would recomend if you have it apart getting some 2G psitons that are 8.5:1 also whats wrong with the turbo engine? i think the really only difference and main difference is the NT doesnt have the oil squrters under the pistons. so if possible and the turbo block is good i would try to use it

It's pretty straightforward.
Swap:

Camshafts
Oil Pan
Bolt in the end of the cylinder head for oil feed
Flywheel/Clutch
Throttle body/elbow

And you'll have to tap the hole in the back of the block for the knock sensor. As far as Compression Ratio's go, Turbo 6-bolts are 7.8:1 and N/A's are 9.0:1. Just tune well and you'll be ok.

I think that's pretty much everything. If I think of something else I'll post it.

N/T blocks lack oil squirters and the ability to be boosted heavily. Keep that in mind.

It's true that they lack oil squirters, but saying they lack hte ability to be boosted heavily is incorrect. It's the exact same block casting at the turbo block.

Yeah, you're gonna have to change some internals. The 4g63t and the 4g63 have different compression ratios.

And here on the DSM boards there's tons of tech articles, vfaqs and tons of other materials at your disposal thatt would walk you through the swap if you look around.

Also don't bump.

I just rebuilt my engine using a n/t block, crank and rods. As for the knock sensor, mine screwed right in w/o tapping...

OK, thanks for all the help guys... Untill I get everything tested, I won't know what damage has been done. I just wanted to have this info b/c of the availibility to the non-turbo engines.

As far as the bump...SORRY...and thanks for the warnings, I now know better.

Thanks again for all the help...
