Actually have a question about the engine in my 1997 GST and the transmission going along with it. At the moment I have the 4g63 engine in the car(came stock I guess) I guess they came stock with a turbo as well(Please note I mm not the smartest of people around hence why I am asking and saying stuff). Now it has the F4A33 Automatic Transmission in it that needs to be fixed, I would prefer to have it converted or swapped with a 5spd Standard, BUT I do not know where to find the transmission or what even the car classifies as to be able to find one online, Someone at work told me it was a JDM but I saw a thread here stating otherwise so now I am all confused.

Any Help would be appreciated,
Again the Question at hand is: What is the car classified as JDM or DSM and Which transmission to order(in the sense of jdm or dsm).

JDM = Japan Domestic Market (made for the japanese market)
DSM = Diamond Star Motors (made by diamond star motors)

Your car would be a DSM because eclipses up to 1999 are considered to be DSM's. All JDM eclipses are DSMs(because they were made at the DSM factory), but it really doesn't matter if its JDM or not. You can just get any manual transmission that came with a 1995-1999 eclipse, but you'll need the tranny, axles, shifter cables, shifter assembly, shifter, ball, boot, console, clutch pedal, master cylinder, and probably some other things too...

So if I were to go to the junkeyard and pull the entire transmission assembly off a gs with a 5spd it would work as well just as long as its within 1995-1999?

The Eclipse is both in a way. JDM is just Japanese Domestic Market, Mitsubishi can be considered a "JDM" name just because it originated in Japan, but a lot are made in America. Now, DSM stands for Diamond Star Motors. If you look at the Mitsubishi symbol it has 3 diamonds. If you look at the Chrysler symbol it is a pentastar. DSM is a production plant that produced the Laser, Talon, and Eclipse. Which was a joint venture between Mitsubishi and Chrysler (Eagle/Plymoth).

Someone on here is selling a tranny out of a shell

I forgot to clarify as long as it is from a 95-99 GST(NOT an RS, GS, or GSX), then yes. Its seems like you are kinda unclear about what kinda car you have though.

If the engine looks like this(4g63):

and you have no drive shaft going to the rear wheels, then you have a GST and you need a 95-99 GST Transmission.

What is it you mean by "Unclear about what kind of car you have."? like the Make Model and stuff or? If thats the case i know for sure its a gst but see i just dont know the compatibility issues and stuff. Hence why i was asking about it because im having a tough time finding a transmission around where I am at a decent price. And i really dont feel like driving around in a automatic turbo car its kinda "ahem" excuse my french but lame...

You have to use a Front Wheel Drive, Turbo Transmission. The GS/RS won't work, nor will the GSX.

Before you start down this path, ask yourself this: Do you have the mechanical ability and funds to do the swap? There is electrical work that has to be done as well, i.e. wiring to the ECU etc, in addition to cutting holes for the clutch pedals etc...

^ Very good things to consider.

To answer your question; For the 1995-1999 turbo front wheel Eclipse/Talon the F4A33 is the automatic transmission (which you said you have) and the F5M33 is the manual transmission (which you said you want).

I wasn't trying to be offensive, you just said you "guess" it game with a 4g63 and a turbo and you were unsure about things. I was just double checking so that we can help you the best we can :thumb:

So I need a F5M33 transmission then, Awesome, Thanks that will help alot, (no sarcasm involved I am being serious), And I know its going to be costly and alot of extra time but I have a proffessional garage doin it for about $700 if I supply the parts. I am mechanical but only for stuff small like intercoolers and such.
