Before I bought my car last August the guy before me swapped a cyclone into it. He replaced the rod bearings he told me but I don't think he replaced anything else. Now on a Mazda forum I used to frequent it was almost rule of thumb to replace the water pump and all associated belts/tensioners and bearings on the JDM mazda motors. I'm curious if it would apply in this case. I haven't driven it since then because I am doing alot of other maintenence/upgrade work outside of the engine but it makes me wonder if this would be a good idea to get a new waterpump/timingbelt and all associated bearings and tensioners?

Just to be safe I would do the water pump, timing belt, balance shaft belt, all accessories belts, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, balance shaft tensioner pulley, hydrolic tensioner, Change all the fluids, hoses, vacuum lines, spark plugs, plug wires, any bad gaskets, and do a boost leak test. And for peace of mind I would pull the oil pan off and see what the previous owner did to the bottom end and make sure everything is ok. Not trying to give you a list of parts to buy but its better to know everything is new and done right.

Yeah he said he removed the balance shaft belt but I'm going with an eliminator kit all together to just get rid of it. im also getting the head planed so i can run arp's and an MLS hg gasket.. ill probably do a compression test before hand and whatnot when i take it apart to see what I'm truely dealing with.

If you have no documentation of it done, that you should replace these parts on a "new" used car.

And with all of this being done, boost leak test when finished is always a good idea.

The "Cyclone" part is just the intake manifold. Other than that it's just a regular 4g63t. Chances are a JDM ecu was not swapped into the car with the motor so your "cyclone" intake is not working properly. It has 2 sets of runners with butterfly valves and actuators that are controlled by the jdm ecu or an rpm switch. Most recommend ditching this manifold for the regular US manifold. Just fyi...

The ECU is in the car, I have both the US and JDM ones. I'm switching the intake anyways but for reference since I hate saying JDM or w/e I figure'd I would just use the term cyclone.
