Well I just got my car back from a local mechanic shop after a transmission rebuild. Noticed a few things wrong.

They broke the upper nipple off of my bov. Is it a big problem to drive with this hose not connected?

Next thing I noticed was this hose, running down the passenger side fender. What is it and is that where it should be?

Last but not least...it seems I am leaking oil. Oil was collecting on my drain plug, dripping onto my downpipe, and on my drain tube. I noticed what seems to be a leak from the valve cover. I just purchased a new vc gasket kit, and a new drain plug/gasket. What do you guys think?

The nipple needs to be connected to have proper operation of the BOV. Trace the hose to where it is coming from and going to. Clean up the area, replace the gaskets (valve cover, spark plug x4, and the half moon) and see what happens.

I would smack the piss out of them for that crap oh boy would the idiots have heard it. GRRRR I had a tranny work done on my old auto GST and when i got it back i got 10 miles away from the shop and the ass hats didnt tighten the dang torque converter bolts so they all fell out i was so freakin mad.

I figured as much with the bov. I'll probably just wait until I get my fmic from punishment racing to put on my ngr though.

I traced the hose back to the firewall. I'll have to take a picture of the location so others can chime in.

I managed to replace the vc gasket today. I thought everything went smoothly. This was my first time working on the dsm and I can say I'm rather happy about doing it myself. I'm gonna let the loctite cure overnight and fire it up tomorrow.

Yeah I was pretty pissed off. I guess they assume people aren't going to look at the car after they get it back... The good news is that I have before and after photos. I'm going to go show them the photos, and hopefully work something out.

For real i would have flipped out man:mad:. As for your BOV nipple driving it without that could have you risking compressor surge which is bad. The compressed air will have no where to go and thats never a good situation. This is why i don't recommend taking your car to places that do not specialize in dsm's and evos. They don't know what the hell there doing and most don't care. And when they break something like your BOV they are like, well its just a nipple remove the hose theyll never know. ID be soaking it up dude and making them pay it and more:hmm:. I recommend always removing the part and taking it to the shop for fixing it resolves the issue of them even having a chance to break something and not take responsibility . Let us know what happens, good luck.

What's going to happen when you boost is well, your boost will be released back to the intake at a certain psi and you will have compressor surge.

Why?

The nipple get's hooked up to a manifold pressure port so when you are boosting, the same boost pressure is pressing down on the diaphragm making a higher pressure (spring pressure+boost pressure) to keep the BOV from opening up.

When the throttle plate closes, vacuum is made and assists the outward force the pressure is creating inside the pipe, opening up the valve and diverting it.

Without it the BOV will open up once pressure exceeds the valve spring pressure inside of the BOV regardless if you are in vacuum or positive pressure. Also compressor surge will occur due to the the excess pressure that didn't escape from only spring pressure will travel all the way back to the compressor wheel and try to force it to spin in the opposite direction. That can and will cause severe damage.

So either find a way to put a nipple on there or get a new/used BOV.

you really cant prove they broke your BOV or anything else of that matter once you take the car out the garage... reason and let lesson be learned that: when you are picking up a car from a shop inspect of any damages before taking it out.. including scratches.. dents, hoses and excessive/unecessary dirt oil on car paint..

my friend's white freshly painted 2000 civic si had oil/ greasy hand prints in stupid places for no reason.. why? he did get a car wash reinbursement..

you bring up a very good point! still cant hurt to bring it up to them tho! i hate taking my car places to get worked on just because of the simple fact of all it takes is one ignorant person having a bad day to mess up your car. id rather do the work myself and save a little money in the process. sorry to hear that tho def sucks!
