a/c blew up the line by the fender

Right on the driver fender by the schrader valve where it goes from metal to rubber the rubber swelled up and popped!
So the line was hot before this and the compressor had to be working to do this.
Does the a/c cycle from this side to the front and then back around on the driver side or the opposite direction.
Just trying to figure out what clogged but I guess at this point it doesn't matter.
 
actually it was completely empty from a leaky valve stem there on the fender.
So ya it was getting a recharge but at that point it had maybe 1 can and wasn't cold inside or anything.

Got a new line. Also put in a new expansion valve although I really don't have any reason to believe the old one is bad.
Barely put any 134a in it and the passenger side line gets HOT to the point you can't touch it.
As long as the engine stays running the pressure stayed in the safe level, actually low. Each time I turned the engine off the pressure spiked to the red until I restarted it.
What's wrong with this thing.
