Winnipeg,
Well my buddy has blowen his Altenator fuse and does not have a replacement. He wants to see if he can find one at a junk yard but needs his car to drive to find one. Even if he ordered one from mitsu he needs the car for the mean time since there not carried in stock. He doesent really want to just hard wire it incase something happens.

Is there anything he could wire in to make a makeshift fuse? Like twist ties or something? Enough to hold the power but something that might offer some sort of protection for the mean time?

He is sitting at a friends house as we speak waiting for me to call him back, any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Oh he has a 1g n/t 2.0

I wouldnt try that because you will fry your electrical system if it fails, When mine went out I just went to carquest and they had it in stock. But if it fails you will need a new electrical system, meaning a battery and alternator.

NEVER "rig" anything when it comes to things like this! Fuses are there for a reason and bypassing them can result in major damage to the electrical system or even a fire. I had a friend once jump his MPI fuse with a nail and his engine bay caught fire after the harness started to melt. Theres nothing special about these fuses is there? I don't see any reason a parts store wouldn't have a replacement. My advise is to find the cause of the failure first (if there is one) and then replace the fuse.

Mine blew not too long ago. I picked one up at autozone so your friend shouldnt have any trouble finding one.

The fusable link? Its the one that has 2 10mm bolts holding it in. As far as I know only mitsu sells them (well at least around here). My buddy called several auto stores and they don't carry it, its not your average fuse. He just left the car for tonight, unfortunately the dealerships are not open on the weekends, well the parts counter at least so hopefully he has some luck at the junkyards.

Yea, just replacing it without finding out why it happened could be cause for something even worse FIRE!!! I would check for a short in the wiring. There's a post here about finding shorts and other bad wiring issues some where, I've seen it linked. SO a search and try some of those methods on the wire that the link blew on. Or if you go buy some buy a few so if you have to hook it up to find an error, you'll at least have an extra or 2 while fiddling with it if you blow another one.

I've blown that fuse and know for a fact that Autozone does carry them. Just take it out and bring it with you to the store. Even though it bolts in it is still a common type of fuse used on lots of different cars. My area might be different but I know they are available locally.

i would not "rig" it for long.. if your stuck somewhere you could use the foil from in a cigarette pack and put it in the fuse from one side to the other to get you home.. ive done that but like i said its a temp fix if your stranded..
