ok so somehow i ran out of brake fluid yesterday. noticed when driving to work shifting gears was a little rougher then normal. left from work and got progressively worse almost impossible to get into gear pulling into my apartment.

i put brake fluid in as soon as i got back.

im not sure if its a manual bleed system or what but i tried pumping the clutch to bleed the air out but hasnt seemed to work.

let me know if theres something i need to do with the slave or master to release the air.

On the slave cylender there's a bleeder valve. Have some one press the clutch in open the valve let the fluid run out then close it and let off the clutch slowly. Repeat until no air comes out with the fluid. Helps to put a length of tubing on the end so you can see if threshold air. Keep the fluid full or you'll have to start over.

Or just Google it for a better description. Do you know why you were losing fluid

thanks for the help

im not sure why its losing fluid thats my next issue once i bleed all the air out.

Might be a bad master cylinder. That happened to me. It was leaking on the driver compartment side of the firewall. I've bled my clutch at least 20 times before finally replacing the master

I ran into the same issues. After many opinions from fellow DSMers, I went ahead and replaced the master cylinder along with the slave cylinder. Its best to change them both at the same time.:)
If you do or do not decide to change them you will still need to bleed the system. http://www.teamrip.com/how_to_properly_bleed_a_hydraulic_clutch_info.html

You lost fluid so that means it's likely one of the following.

1. You have a leak at the master, either at the screw that the flare nut goes into or at the seals for the master. If it is the seals you will notice fluid leaking near the gas pedal on a 1g or near the clutch on a 2g.
2. A bad slave, you should notice a lot of fluid around it, it's pretty obvious.
3. You have a hole in one of the lines. Just trace around and see if you notice any fluid on them.

If your fluid isn't leak... which I don't know how the hell it couldn't be if you added fluid, besides the Underpants Gnomes switching to this tactic.

Step 1 steal 3-4 dot brake fluid from clutch system.
Step 2 ????
Step 3 PROFIT!

If you need to bleed it, I'd suggest reverse bleeding. It's done by taking a pump of some sort that won't allow the system to get air in it. Then you go and loosen the bleeder, attach a hose from your pump to your bleeder. Then you fill your system from the BLEEDER. This pushes the air out of the system while filling. A Autozone hand pump will work, but I'd suggest something better like a old style oil can.

thanks for all the help guys im actually replacing the master cylinder now, car was fine for a couple months and then started leaking again.

i was at work the day before christmas and noticed it happening again and once i tried to leave work it wouldnt go into any gear, also while in neutral it making like a grinding or squealing noise.

if you think its anything else besides the master and slave please let me know, also ive never replaced the master or slave if someone could tell me how difficult it is like if i can do it with just a jack or if i need a lift i would greatly appreciate it.
