so i just bought a 99 gs 122k on it tons of recipts for parts. test drove ran like a charm not ticks no knocks no nothing. on the ride home i got on it a little bit it started to smoke. a clean smock nothing black or anything like that. got it home turned it off aited a few started it back up and revved it up smoked a little bit but nothing major. any ideas on what this could be thank you

A gray smoke I didn't see anydiscolor or loss of oil

Also if head gasket we net would it run like garbage

Valve seals....

+1. thats the cause of mine. only happens at high rpm in neutral, or takeing off from a light.

and to the op, you wont notice a loss of oil right away. check the oil level in about 3-4 days depending on your driving habits. i check mine about once a week (i drive approx 2-300 miles a week) and i need about half a quart every other week or so.

Leak down test most definatly. I didnt know for awhile on my Prelude that I had a head gasket problem. Its safer to check before it gets worse

I think it is the valve seals that what my dad said he thinks it is. Because it's running perfect. It only happens at high rpms and take offs

What way can I check to see valve seals or hd gasket besides leak Down test

The smoke is more like a blueish color

If its valve seals then its going to smoke more upon cold start up then a warm start. I suggest starting cold and compare the amount of smoke to when you start it warm. If the less smoke or no smoke on warm start id say its your seals then

Ok so I checked the oil it was high I took some out and now the smoke is alot less. Now there is a little Greyish smoke when I rev it up and let off it smokes a bit nothing major tho. But I did notice alot of moisture coming out the exhaust This is a shot in the dark do u guys think it could have had a blown headgasket that was fixed but could there be coolant from the blown gasket still sitting in the exhaust which is just burning off?

Ok so I did a compression test since the smoke is gray and whitish with maybe a hit of blue.
Cylinder 1 165
Cylinder 2 185
Cylinder 3 170
Cylinder 4 178
What dl you guys think maybe rings? Or still hg and valve stem seals? Also if it was rings would the smoke burn alot and of like a deep clear blue?

I had a similar problem after installing a transplant motor with 100k on it and good compression from the pull and pay.

Smoked like crazy (neighbors thought I was trying to kill mosquito's on our street):D

I ran a can of "Restore" through it and it smoked a little less. Eventually no smoke and its been 30k since last smoke. We finally decided it had to be a stuck oil ring.

I still put a can of "Restore in every so often. It may help you, small price for a big fix.

BK85

It smokes when I rev it up and let off I don't wanna go have the v seals done and the hg if it's not the problem

Ok, first thing - quit redlining your car in neutral. Revving your engine and holding it is no bueno. What oil is in the car? You already know there is a problem so be gentle on your engine. BK85 has it right. Try restore or zmax. Something along those lines. Better to try cheap fix compared to taking the engine apart. Try a better oil with some kind of restorant. If it still smokes after a tank of fuel, then its time to pop the top and start digging.

When I say rev it up I was going to 3k or so not redline I'm not stupid. I had y mechanic come look at it ad after a bunch of tests he came to the conclusion. Of rings. The car is not o. The road yet I bought it cheap and am fixing the problem after making some machine shop phone calls I called my local junkyard and was able to get another motor for cheaper the. The rebuild would be. Car has 122k on it transplant motor has 73k on it. We should b swapping it this weekend then I will be slowly rebuilding the motor that I pull

What kind of warranty comes with the rebuilt engine? I bought a rebuilt engine and it threw a rod after about 1,000 miles. It had a warranty but they wouldn't honor it completely, I have to pay some shipping another shop install bill because I didn't have the resources I have now.. well I hope it works out, I'm hunting for a used block in the next few months to rebuild with built internals whithout losing my DD.

yeah thats what im doing i have a 90 day full warrenty on the engine from the junkyard i plan to rebuild and build up the engine i am pulling out
