Just Bought an AF/X ECU

MS is better :p

On another note, you will notice a gain from the afx and should be great for you as long as you don't go turbo...

MS is better.... if you are capable of having that downtime to learn to tune. Its awesome because you can feel a complete difference in your car after a couple hours of driving. Maybe Im imagining it but you can sorta feel the transformations as your ECU adjust to your driving style.

and I didnt plan on going turbo til i got out of college or close to it. So this gives me about 4 years to build my NA. Its going to be fun. Maybe later I'll pick up MS and see what its all about

This ecu is the best hands down upgrade for an NA DSM, unless you go teh MS route (which i plan on and here good things about)

Details pls. What does it make awesome?

Cheap affordable easy tuning (plug n play) timing advance, all around better horsepower.

Yup, absolutely the best NA "bolt-on" you can find for our cars.

Somewhere (either on here or on 2gnt.com) I did a dyno sheet comparison between MSnS and the AFX ECU on one of my set-ups. My MSnS was professionally tuned by a top tuner for MSnS. The comparison was pretty interesting. I had a slightly better curve and a slightly better peak on the MSnS, but other than that, they were pert-near right on to each other.

IMO, the "weakest" link of our cars is the ECU settings. To find something like the AFX ECU (when there is basically no other alternatives) as a simple bolt-in and "self tune" affair, is excellent.

Glad you are enjoying. Too bad we have to wait to get it from Howell :ohdamn:

Glad you guys chimed in. Is there any website or link where you can get more information on this ECU? I cant find anything and I have so many questions about it.

No ive read that description a million times but I want more in depth info on it.

Specifically, what info do you want to know?

Most of the information we have is on Howells site.

More in depth how the ECU works? Will it still show check engine codes? I know it advances timing. What else makes it different from stock.

Basically more agressive timing curves and leaner fuel. It will not throw a code and I have taken it through emissions with no issues. It will "learn" your driving style like the stock ECU does.

i might pick this up for my n/t. is this just PnP? completely replaces the stock ecu or is a piggy back type deal?

only thing is i hear bad things about Howell all the time. how your order something and never get it, or it takes a long time.

have they changed and are now a good place to buy stuff from?

Think of Howell as obx's quality control department... very hit and miss. Give me about 3 months and I'll sell you mine :p

they have different ecu's for each year and transmission. i know that the difference between mtx and atx would need a different ecu, and that the 95's were obdI, but 96+ are the ecu's that different that they aren't interchangeable?

98 and 99 have the same ECU pinouts; a 98 ECU will work in a 99, and visa versa.

Otherwise, the pintouts changed every year.
