Ive read mixed reviews on the reliability of the 2g eclipse. I dont have a lot of money but ive always wanted one of these cars. So if taken care of the way its supposed to be, how long do these cars usually last before major work has to be done to it? 98 eclipse OBO that is the link to the car i want to buy...thank you :hellyeah:

if you want a non turbo with a 4g63 youre going to have to get a 1g, 2g's non turbo came with either the 420a or 4g64 (spyders)...like I've said before the 420a was an amazing engine for me, i did every single maintenance to it and never let me down, only problem was i had to replace the clutch but that's part of maintenance after a certain amount of miles, and yes i did get heavy on the throttle at times, a buddy of mines had a 98 gs bought it with 70k and lasted him until 310k miles, as long as you do it's maintenace it will last you, same thing with turbo models as long as you find one not beat to death (getting hard to find):thumb:

Pay way less than that for a 420a (idiots who think they can get away with selling them for that much with that engine and mileage are high), or go turbo GST or GSX. You will not be disappointed with a turbo. I used to think that nonturbo and turbo doesnt matter. Trust me, it does. (pssst go GSX...)

He did say he didn't care about power, and i think he has a way higher chance of finding a NA in better condition than a turbo model, most turbo models for sale have been tempered with and beat the sh*t out of, like i've told him if he wants a turbo model go for it just cheack it out in every aspect and if he finds any problem come back to the forums and ask before he buys, most people rather buy a good running car with less power than one with power but is going to have to sit on jack stands with all kinds of problems, just my .02

So what ones have the 4g63 non turbo's? Thats what id prefer anyway.

Only the European exports had the NT 4g63. Mitsu/Chrysler kept the 420a to North/Central/South america, but gave LHD European countries the 4g63's in everything

I found a 98 GS-T with 116k on it for 2900, but its a spyder and i dont want a convertable :( And i hear that GS-T has some common problem called a crank walk? Or something like that. So ive been trying to stay away from those, is it really that common of an issue?

I picked up a 96 gst spyder a lil while back. got it for 3gs at 95k miles wit a new tranny. I would pick one up. I myself was not a fan of convertibles, but it grew on me. After mileage maintenance replacement parts such as alternator water pump and starter, car runs mint!!!

My eclipse has 166k and runs strong and it has the a604 which everybody says was a bad transmission but it hasn't quit on me yet.

Where are some other good places to look for cars besides craigslist?

Ebay motors and cars.com are my favorites besides craigslist

There are websites you can use that will search all craigslist within a set distance. Check those out. I would definately look for a turbo. I had a 420a but i got tired of it and got a 1g gst. There are good deals out there you just have to look hard. Good Luck.

Where else should i look besides craigslist? And how well do the 2g eclipses handle a 50 shot of nitrous?

I wouldn't use any type of nitrous on that block unless you built it with high compression like 10:1, but spray is for pu**ies anyways LOL. I own a 98 GS and like everyone said on here, i have no problems whatsoever with her.
