talon worth buying?

1995 eagle talon TSI
how bad is it to replace a input shaft seal

its not that bad to deal with but I had run into an issue with it last year when I replaced mine but it kept poping out like five different times so I brought it in and the shop fixed it I dont know exactly what they did to keep it in but its good now

how much did the shop charge you? the guy said the only fluid it leaks is trans fluid because of the shaft seal..

its not very hard, just kinda time consuming. Great deal it looks like if he hasnt beat the hell out of the car, and he is being honest about the upgrades

I thought the input shaft seal has to be installed from inside the transmission?

There is a seal inside the trans and the input shaft seals where the axles meet the trans. Leaks could be at both. Inside the transmission sounds bad, shaft seals easy fix.

I just got off the phone with him and now he tells me it has a 6 bolt that was swapped in by the previous owner. He's selling it so cheap because he's on probation and if he doesn't make a payment by friday he is going to county. He also made it clear that he doesn't know much about these cars.

Well this maybe a heck if what he says is true about the car but I highly doubt it and I don't think he'd go back to jail if he didn't pay. The car would be taken back by the bank.

Okay so I've been calling some shops today and as I predicted no one can give me an estimate on how much it would cost to get the shaft seal inside the trans replaced without actually looking at the car. A few of the shops recommended replacing the bushing with it as well. So my question is has anyone ever had a shop or anyone that works in a transmission shop replace this seal and how much did it cost you roughly. I would just like to know if I am going to be spending 300 dollars to fix this or 600+.

Probably like $400 if it's only a seal. It a lot of labor taking getting to that.

Probably close to $1,000 from any reputable shop. Trans removal and reinstall itself is going to be at least $500. Add to that most shops wont crack an awd trans open to do anything.

Well the car was in fact a 6 bolt and did have all the mods listed and SAFCII, AEM wideband, 3 other gauges, super clean interior overall a nice car..until I got to the compression test..160 165 155 110. Looks like I'm still on the hunt for a talon
