I dunno where to start, I got a 97 GST. I pulled the ECU out and was ready to send it out to ECMlink and found I have a Non EPROM ECU. BOO! My biggest question is it safe to swap to black box?

I have searched plenty but maybe I am just not understanding the concept of installing a blackbox ECU. The price point to ECMLink just got higher. So the Blackbox ECU has peaked my interest based on the cost.

Can anyone provide me with a link/thread of how to install a blackbox ECU? Some I see have said PNP, some say you have to swap pins. Also what serial numbers would I be looking for on the black box ECU in order to obtain the correct ECU (as far as the black box.. I don't want to buy the wrong one!)

Thanks hopefully I didn't beat the dead horse but definitely need help on this. Thanks

With the questionable state of used ECUs I dont see why you wouldn't send yours off to be converted, figure the $180 is the price of an EPROM and the price to have it refurbished basically.

It's way easier to use than a blackbox anyways, so honestly if saving 40-50 bucks isn't a big deal I'd just have them put ECMlink in yours.

$180 + v.3 $500 is really expensive is what I was thinking. So since I am located in Hawaii I was thinking $700 is a lot more than the cost of black box by about $500

Correct me if I am wrong though because tuning a 2g DSM is all new to me.

It is, but if tuning is new to you, the blackbox might not be the way to go. Unless you know somebody that can help you. There's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to the blackbox setup.

Ok thanks. I was thinking when reading into it that it was pretty difficult. Looks like I'll be sending the ECU out to ECMTuning.

Yeah the blackbox aren't bad or anything by any means, they're pretty capable as a way of tuning, just in terms of ease of use, not exactly what I'd call easy, and there's not a ton of support for them like there is for ECMlink.
