ive read about the 97 ecu that you can buy that is reprogrammed and is supposedly a good mod but have also ran into it saying it could only be installed onto a 97 n/t. call me ignorant but i really dont know the answer as to why it is only able to be used on that year i thought all 2g n/t's had similar setups? so my question is, is it true you cant use it on other years and why? i did some research and yielded almost nothing not only on this site but alse 2gnt.com any help would be very appriciated.

You're talking about the Af/x ecu right? It can be purchased through howellautomotive.com. The reason its only for 97 is because that's the year of the prototype ECU that was first modded. Nobody really wants to risk trying it on their non-97 cars since it's pretty expensive.

To directly answer your question, not all years had the same ecu. Just as they changed the body style over the years, there is always a possibility that they modified the ecu. I think the wiring is different on 98 and 99 cars. But i haven't heard or seen the difference myself, so it could all be hearsay. You could be the first to try it out for us. :thumb:

There is a member on 2gnt that has a 96 and has gotten the afx ecu to work.

Howell is suppose to make more ecus for the different years, but since they deal with neons more, 420a eclipses people like us usually get the short end of the stick and have to wait until they have free time before we get anything new to play with.

the pins change, but the wire colors stay the same. all you'd hafta do is splice in the afx ECU, but Im not 100% sure what else is different between the 97 and 99 MTx NT ECUs

I- have posted this so many times on several boards:

95-ECU totally different from other years
96-99 Here are the differences:

-96&97 use a different wiring for the DUTY CYCLE PURGE SENLENOID VAVLE(A\T) than the 98&99 ECUs do

-The TO GENERATOR pin on the 96 ECU is B4 and the pin on the 97-99 ECUs are B8, but pin is in same location on diagram

-The wiring going to the ignition coil is different. The 96&97 ECUs use pin B2 while 97-99 ECUs use B11, but pins are in same location

That is ALL THE DIFFERENCES. The 95 ECUs have a totally different layout.

The 95 ECU is one big harness while the 96-99 ECUs are two separate harnesses.

Yea, talonspeed was the guy I was thinkin of. Good info dude (first time i've seen it) :thumb: :thumb:
