I replaced my ECU in my 95 MT ESi. The car starts up fine but I get a CEL code 66- which is P1698 and means "No CCD messages from TCM Harness and connector / Replace TCM"

The thing is TCM's are only in AT and I have a MT. I haven't driven it yet because I am afraid of screwing something up.

The OEM part number is 5269653. The place I ordered it from had all my cars information including the VIN #, so I do not believe I have received an incorrect ECU...but something obviously does not add up.

So I have a few questions: Is it safe to drive the car? (my guess is no, to be safe) and are there any ideas on how to fix this problem? I searched and found a few other people who had this problem but they did not post on how to fix it.

ANY HELP is much appreciated. Thank you.

Did you get it remanufactured/refurbished, or new? My thoughts are, if it has been refurbished, that the mainboards may have become mixed up. Who knows. You shouldn't be having that problem, though.

Have you tried contacting the vendor about the problem yet? See if they will replace it with another.

I contacted the vender this morning, just waiting for a call back from them. I was looking on the receipt and it looks like it is a reman'd ECU. I remember when I ordered it they had to get the part in from another warehouse and then 'update' it, so I was wondering if it's the right part but they updated it incorrectly? I'll have to wait for the phone call

What are your thoughts on driving with this ECU? I haven't tried yet, I wanted to speak to the vender first.

They should call me back sometime today, I'll keep this thread updated.

You've got a AT ECU. You won't have any problems really besides the code, however if you kept it, you'll never know when a new CEL pops up, unless you regularly do the keydance, or have the code(s) pulled. Contact who you bought it from and have it replaced with the correct unit.

Thank you for the response. That is kind of good news that I can drive my car normally (just with the CEL). I will have to take her for a drive in a few days when it is absolutely necessary for me to drive it to get to work.

I've been reading about the ECU going into 'limp' mode, do you suppose my ECU will be in that mode with this particular code?

The vendor didn't call me back today....they're not the best company to deal with apparently. I'm guessing another 2 weeks before it's all the way fixed.

There is no telling exactly what that ECU is gonna do really. You should definitely have it replaced with the correct mtx version, and you'll be good to go :thumb:

I took her for a drive yesterday and everything seemed fine, aside from the CEL. It appears that I am able to drive to work for the time being.

Tomorrow I will be calling the vendor back up and seeing what they'll do about it. I also was going to call the Mitsu dealership in town and see if they could reprogram the ECU for me (instead of waiting for a new one). Any experiences with this?

One more thing, while in the car yesterday I noticed my air does not work (vents). I turned it on all the way and nothing was coming out....you think it's just a simple fuse? My ECU was fried in the first place by reversing polarity on the battery. So I hope it's just a fuse.

Thanks for the help, I'll be sure to give updates as they come

...reversing polarity on the battery?

Just wanted to make sure he didn't mean anything else...but wow anyways

I was wondering if that the case for me, i have a m/t giving them same code here and nothing esle is wrong. So it looks like i got to find a new ecu for my 95 gs eclipse

did see if my pm sent so might have done it twice
