Hello I am new to posts but have been using this site for almost a year with no account, finally made one. Anyways I have a 97 n/t rs as a first project car(love everything about it) there’s a couple little things like replacing gaskets and rust repairs but there’s one thing that’s had me stumped since I got it. I’ve searched for my problem on these forums but haven’t found one with my current issue. When I turn my night time lights on the passenger low beam comes on and the driver high beam comes on, and then when I flip the brights on, both passenger light go on(as suspected) but the drivers low beam comes on and high beam shuts off, I’ve sanded down all the grounds near the lights and checked all the fuses. I’m guessing it’s just bad wiring/old car things but it just grinds my gears. It’s much appreciated for anyone with any educated answer to my problem, thanks.

The problem could be as simple as a bad bulb (filaments touching), or a damaged socket, or a missing ground. Try the simpler solutions first.

We had this problem with one of our DSMs, and it turned out that the harness that runs between headlights, had been damaged during a previous owner’s repair. The wire they hooked up the driver’s headlight to, was the wrong one, and caused a very similar problem to what you describe.

It will be a painstaking process, but use the wiring diagrams available on here to determine what is the correct wiring pattern, and verify on your car.

Should be a bad bulb.
Remove the bulbs and check them, put one bulb at a time, but when you put one bulb, turn ON the lights and see what happen, then install another bulb and turn on the lights again, Ian’s keep doing that until you find the bad bulb.
You will be able to see the bulb when is bad, just pay attention to the inside element
