97 gsx stocl oil pressure gauge failed

when i bought the car the balanced shafts were already removed which means im going to have higher oil pressure...so anyways back in august the front case got mangled up and i got the timing and all components redone--new front case with new balance shaft removal kit belts pulleys etc...so when i got my car back the stock oil pressure gauge was fine then after a week the oil pressure sender keeps failing...therefore everytime i put a new oil pressure sender in it works for a few days then fails again..any suggestions on what i should do because i dont want to just go buy an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and then that sender keeps failing too...

Where do you buy the sending units from? Autozone?

Oh. I wouldn't have been surprised if it was a quick shop like autozone or murrays. The dealer should have a little higher quality parts. Do the new sending units allow the gauge to work temporarily before they fail, or do they not work at all? Also, is it only the oil pressure sending unit that fails? Coolant temp is fine?

whenever i put the new sender unit in it works properly for a few days tops then fails again...and the coolant temp is fine...i just need some advice because ive talk to other people who have went out and bought autometer oil pressure gauges and the senders in them fail too..so what do u suggest

I was trying to find the problem. It seems if you were getting voltage spike via a bad regulator in the alternator, or had a bad engine ground burning everything up, it would affect the coolant switch on your water outlet which controls your coolant gauge.

If you are afraid of burning out sending units all the time, go with a mechanical gauge. Atleast until the problem can be found.

It doesn't affect pressure at all. Thanks to Pascal. "a change in the pressure of an enclosed incompressible fluid is conveyed undiminished to every part of the fluid and to the surfaces of its container"

Only difference you will notice is you would need about an ounce more oil to fill the line.

Also, I would use a little bit of red rtv on the fittings to prevent them from leaking.

When I mentioned the RTV, I was reffering to the brass fitting adapters on mechanical gauge. Also, when I went to bed last night it dawned on me that there would be a pressure drop as you are increasing the volume. For a 1/16" 6' hose I'm estimating there is only about 1/32" of an inch that the oil will flow through.

1/32=0.03125= D. R=0.015625

The cross section would be pi*r^2=0.000766601563"

Times the length of the hose 6*12*0.000766601563

This leads to an increased volume of 0.06"

That is a negligable increase in volume which will hardly have any affect on your oil pressure.
