Hello Guys,

Recently, my brother got into a car accident (him vs light rail). Luckly he and the engine of his car are ok, unfortunately the shell of his 97 gst is damaged badly. I have a complete 95 tsi awd that is not running and been in the garage for the pass two years. Both us are thinking of doing an engine and FWD to AWD swap. Bascially, get out the 95 engine and put in the 97 gst engine and use all the available parts from the 95 tsi to do an AWD conversion. Our concerns are that the 95 tsi has several sensors wirings that is different from a 97 gst (i don't know which one of them to look for) and i don't if it worths the time to do the engine swap and conversion or not?. We already took off the engines of both cars. I would really like to hear all your feebacks on this project

Thank You Very Much

Yes, do it.

As you already know a couple of sensor locations change/may not be used, the biggest being the CAS (95-96 - behind intake cam gear, 97-99 - passenger side, end of intake cam). If you use the 95 ECU you will have to swap the plug wires....1 with 2, and 3 with 4.

Thank You. Anything else i need to watch for when doing the swap

I just did pretty much the same thing. My 97 GST motor into my brother's 95 Tsi AWD. Like everyone said the CAS is different, however on my brothers it previously had a 1g head swap on it so it was wired for a 1g CAS so I didn't really have to deal with it. Good luck, hope it works out for ya.

What other sensors are going to be different in a 97 gst and 95 tsi beside the CAS that i need to watch for. Could anyone tell me how the CAS wiring going to be like for a 97 gst in a 95 tsi shell

Thank You Very Much

Could anyone tell me more about other sensors that i need to be caution for ? Also, the CAS wiring difference between a 95 and 97

Thank You
V

Make sure you use the starter plate from the shell on the gst engine otherwise the starter won't engage correctly.

All 2gs are the same except for the cas so pretty much nothing else to worry about.
