I just got my car to run after the previous owner said it’s been sitting for a year and he couldn’t find the issue. After I started it up it’s running pretty hot and it looked like the headers or under the headers was smoking. Anyone know what the issue could be?

I have not done a complete look at the car since I’m honestly in shock I got it to start up. But tomorrow I’m going to check if it’s a coolant leak and maybe dropping on the exhaust which is making it smoke. But the engine itself was very hot.

Qualify it’s running pretty hot. Is the exhaust manifold glowing red?
Is there smoke coming from the the exhaust pipe, what color is it and what does it smell like?

Did you dump the old fuel and put in fresh?
Was the engine covered in oil?

Pictures of under the hood could help.

Hey I made a new account.

I just replaced the head gasket and cleaned up my engine bay a lot and my exhaust is still smoking. The main spot is at the flex pipe. I’m thinking that the sealant that I have used connected to my down pipe and headers is burning off. It’s a lot of smoke and won’t go away. I did use a lot of sealant. Should I take the down pipe off and clean all the sealant off and see if it helps? The smell is like melted plastic and smokes up my whole garage.

The car runs amazing, idles perfect not overheating, not loosing cooling or oil. Any ideas?

Exhaust shouldn't require any sealant. The gaskets do the work. Anything else will burn off, which could take considerable time.
Yeah I know it just looked like the down pipe and bottom of header wouldn’t seal good. I removed the sealant and now it doesn’t smoke on the flex pipe. But smoke is coming out of exhaust. I just replaced the head gasket. I have 130-130-130-140 compression. I’m going to do a leak down tmr and see what it reads. Just have no clue why there’s so much smoke. I’m probably going to start it tmr if I get a good leak down. And see if the smoke goes away.
