Okay so I just picked up a 95 motor that was rebuilt (got it for a steal) to put into my 99. The only question I have is about the CAS. Since I still have my 99 head, can I just swap my CAS over to the 95 head since on the 2ga's, the CAS is under the cam gears. Would that work fine?

Also, I can't get the turbine wheel to spin. The motor has been sittin for about 5 months. Do you think once oil gets flowin through the motor again it will cause the turbo to break free? Or do I need a replacement?

What happened to the engine in your '99? The '99's are supposed to have the most sought-after and reliable 7-bolt there is.

....and the turbo's probably not going to come loose. Don't risk it regardess....it's a T25. They have a poor thrust plate by design.

Was in the process of hydrolocking. Somehow water got through and started to knock. Ript it apart and took it to a machine shop. My dad never followed through and instead wanted to just grab a replacement instead of spending money

The '99 block has a MUCH better thrust bearing design- the same that's used on the Evo VIII and IX 7-bolt.

If I were you I'd track down a set of Evo VIII rods and pistons and drop them into your existing block. Don't go through all the work of putting a possibly less-reliable '95 motor in it's place.

I know all about how reliable the 99 block is. I don't have the funds for this and i wont be driving the hell out of it or putting parts on it. My car has been down for a year and its going to be left alone (stock) once its going. We are short on money and can't afford for me not have my car anymore so this is the way we had to go.

Well what's the "steal" you're getting that '95 engine for?

I can't seeing Evo VIII rods and pistons costing much considering the amount of shops that buy new shortblocks and immediately tear them down. As long as your '99 block isn't overbored or doesn't need overbored, the Evo pistons and rods will drop right in....and the rods are forged so durability isn't a worry.

That's probably the route I'd take- you'll know the engine is freshly rebuilt with all new parts for the money you're spending instead of a questionably tired '95 block.

Regarding the CAS....you can use your '99 CAS on the '95 head as long as the intake cam is threaded. Worst case scenerio you have to swap the intake cam for the '99's threaded one.

Yeah, just change the cam cap that goes right by the cam angle sensor to the 97-99 one. Then you will have to tap a hole in the 95 cam for the cam angle sensor screw to go in. If I were you I'd just swap a 97 cam and the cam cap you need. You can leave the 95 cam sensor that goes on the cam gear there, you just wont be plugging it in..

Okay thanks bud. That's what I was planing on doing. I have my 99 head so i'll just swap out the intake cam and the CAS with the 95. Now regarding the turbo, i can get it to spin somewhat now but I am still going to replace it.

So I just got a call from the mechanic and he said the motor is out of a 94. He said nothing will line up?!?!? There couldn't be any way this is a 6bolt. I saw the 95 GS-T that this motor came out of. Is my dads mechanic just dumb or am I missing something? Please help

That's definitely a '95 7-bolt. It has the 2G intake manifold, T25 turbo, it's missing the 1G CAS on the intake cam....I can't see how it's a '94 engine.

Even if it were a '94 engine, it would still be a 7-bolt.
