so im having some problems with my 95 gsx. It started when i came out one day and my battery was dead, not even enough juice to unlock the power doors. i couldn't get the battery to charge at all. so i had the battery tested at o'riles and they told me the battery was getting over charged and it damaged the cells. They also told me it could be the result of a bad regulator. So i had the alternator tested and its just fine. so with all that said, my question is if anyone has encountered this or knows what might be the problem? Thanks.

I'm having somewhat the same problem. But when i got to get on it. It looses all of it's power sometimes. didnt have a cel but had it checked anyway and they said p1500. which is alt terminal malf. Did you have your alt checked at a auto store? they only check for it's output not the regulator only a specific alternator shop will fully test it. going to have mine tested tomorrow. i think this is a specific prob with the 95's. hope someone has been through it and has some good advice

i took the alternator off the car and took it to O'Reilly's and they tested it. the said it was fine, regulator and all. and when the battery cells get damaged they start to leek battery acid. ive been through 2 battery's in the last few weeks.

Oh, and my cel hasn't came on

Anyone? Im sure someone knows whats going on.

I would take it to a different shop and tell them to test it. Go to your local starter/alternator shop that specializes in these items. Then tell them you need to know if it is overcharging. I still think your problem is the regulator. Another thing to check is the connector that connects to the alternator from the engine wire harness, make sure none of the wires are cracked/broken, especially the little wire on top (green wire I think). This wire is what connects the ECU to the alternator to tell the alternator if it needs more amps or not, depending on the load of the electric system at a givin time. If this is all ok then I would think it has something to do with the ECU, specificily the alternator charging circuit.

taking mine to a specialty shop for starters altenators etc, tomorow hopefully. Sux it's gonna cost 35$ for them to jus tell me whats going on with it, but at least i'm not gonna get stuck buying an alt. for no reason. I've checked my ecu and theres no visible signs of damage on the circut board. but i've been told it can still be bad. and i've checked the wire harness to it and it looks fine.

took mine today and everything passed on it which i was very surprised, it was covered in oil and grime, I took mine off so they would test it for free, i took it to 2 diffrent places. But man was it a PITA to take off and put back on. wish i could figure this out tho it's very annoying with the bad gas mileage and loss of power.

Few people probably replied because there's TONS of info on this already posted that can be found by searching and since you cn't post and say "just search" by the rules, no body replies after answering the same thing for years on end like some of us have since it's all in the archives.

now, the OEM mitsu chargin system is JUNK, if you have to replacethe alt search on here and do the saturn alternator upgrade.. i've gone through minimum of 7 DSM alts in my cars time and only on my 2nd saturn/chevy alt since swapping to it and having much better results now (heat and oil covering killed my one chevy alt...those will kill any kind you can p[ut on)

I have been trying to search for my problems but jus dont get on that much or have much time to mess with my car. like earlier i was looking at a forum about bad gas mileage and it dated way back to 2002, but anyway thanks for your advice. i've heard of doing the swap but bont know much about it, but i've had it tested and it was fine. could there still be something wrong with it and would it affect the power or speed of my car? I never have a problem with a dead battery or hard starting jus the on and off power loss and weird idle.

had the same problem, your regulator is cooked, the bench tester at either autozone or o'reilys is junk and cant tell that our altenators are toast, I had EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEMS, ate 2 batterys, had my altenator out three time testing it

buy another altenator try it out

In my experience if an alternator is over charging you can simply see it by checking battery voltage with a voltage tester as you drive the car. It's actually easy to do.
