Are all 95 turbo ECUs eprom, or only certain ones? Does anyone know how to reference an ECU model# to see if its an eprom?

Thanks,

I was wanting to get rid of the safc in favor of DSMlink....unfortunately i need the eprom ecu from a 95...ive been searching around..found one on ebay that was being bid the hell out of, looks like there was plenty of people ready to go top dollar for it so i wasnt interested...i thought i woudl come here and ask if anyone knows where i could start lookign for one of these eprom ecu's? and what i can expect to pay for it

do i need to find an ecu from another turbo AWD or will any 95 eprom ecu work?

Speaking of eprom ecu's, when the 1g dsmlink comes out i plan to get it but where do i start looking for 1g eproms at? How do i tell if i have an eprom in my 90 tsi?

Easiest way is to take it out and look. Your '90 *should* be an EPROM, if not, you'll either have to make sure you get another '90 ECU, or mod your car so that a 91-94 ECU will work (search about it)

ok so i was looking at buying a eprom ecu out of a 95 talon FWD turbo, and the place that i was planning on buying it from said they have different manufactured dates. one is a ecu made before july 1st of 95 and one made after july 2nd 95. dose this make any difference to the ecu or anything ? i am looking to run dsm link on the ecu if it makes any difference.

thanks:dsm:

The manufacturing date doesnt matter, just make sure its out of a 95 and has the chip and socket like the above picture. The chip and socket are on the bottom right

The date does matter but not in the way they are telling you.

There are two part numbers for 95 model year ECUs that can be EPROM. Those are MD312464 and MD309947.
Only those two came as EPROM and non-EPROM, the rest of the 2G ECUs are all non-EPROM versions.

The 1995 FWD cars used both MD312464 from 1/94-7/94 and the MD309947 from 7/94-6/95.

Starting in July of 1995 the plant started building 1996 model year cars and those don't have EPROM ECUs.
