i bought an eprom ecu and currently using it with my dsm link v3 right now, but i am concerned re: the wires that were soldered to/around the actual ecu, when i was reading the dsm link wiki, it said something about spaghetti wiring. the car is running fine with the stock socket and with the ecu, but i dont know if i have to get this one reworked because i dont want to have a problem in the future. have you guys ever encounter this and what happened to the ecu and was this a quick fix?

You'd have to know the pinout of each of the chips to know why new wires were ran. Since they're not too/from the EPROM chip area (at least on top of the board), you can possibly rule out a novice socket job. If you remove the board from the case, you might even find more spaghetti underneath.

Either way, it's not a pleasant thing to see, and I usually recommend people to stay away from an ECU that has had that type of rework. With how common EPROM's are now, it shouldn't be hard to find a virgin one, or at least one in nicer condition. Depends on the rework and how much the person knew what they were doing, things could start going wonky in the future and you won't be able to predict if/when it'd happen.

ok thanks. it was the cheapest i found on craigslist at 100bucks, ### i ordered the dsmlink and my 95 engine has a non eprom ecu. il probably save up for a better eprom ecu. or is there a difference between the non eprom converted to eprom and an eprom ecu? because i still have my non eprom ecu, but since i already ordered the link already without modding my non eprom, i dont get the discount

oh yeah, ill email him since i bought the V3 2 weeks ago. thanks for the info!!

Sure looks to me like someone used a crowbar during socketing and broke/ripped up a few traces that had to be repaired. The repair work was as skilled and the socketing. :p

talked to Thomas Dorris, from dsm link, he said its a little ugly, but the repair doesnt look too bad, he also said as long as the ecu works, leave it alone, and ill probably just send my non eprom ecu to be socekted for eprom. thanks a a lot guys.
