What's up fellow dsmers I am new to the forums but not new to dsm's. I just bought a 92 laser rs turbo (fwd) and I'm just trying to get a little bit more info on a good build for my new toy. It has 89k miles and evo 3 16g with turbo timer. I have done full tune up with gates timming belt and the works. Know I'm looking for huge upgrades money is not a factor with me I will buy what ever I need to get this dsm faster. Just wanting a few opinion's on it.

PR FMIC? 2g pistons? Boost controller? K&N air filter? Just a few ideas. Something to tune with also

I have my fp intake on the way and I have k&n filter on it already. For tuning I was go with the dsm link v3 again. The pr racing fmic i have seen a few of my friends have fitment issues with the piping hitting the alternator or the hood so i looked at ets fmic or vrsf fmic.

Fwd and will sell but want it to run good and look good before I sell it. Plus me killing people at the track cause I live in a city that everybody drives a v8. If u don't have a v8 then ## car is slow.

This has been covered many times.

Good that you got the maintenance done. It's also a good idea to do a compression test and leak down test to see the engine's health. Consider doing a new headgasket w/ARP headstuds (which means redoing the t-belt).

After maintenance is complete, start here.....Tech Guide: 1G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners

It basically says....

  • K&N w/hard pipe
  • Boost controller (electric or manual) plus a boost gauge
  • Upgraded exhaust system (that means 2.5"+ from down pipe to muffler)
  • Higher flowing O2 housing (Punishment Racing makes a good one)
  • Ported exhuast manifold (or the FP you ordered)
  • FMIC or a water/meth system
  • Fuel pump (190lph or 255lph along with a rewire)
  • Bigger injectors (get something that'll fit your long term goals)

From there you'll need to tune it all. Link V3 is a good place to start.

Don't know how streetable you want to keep this car, but you can eliminate a good amount of weight to help with your times. That includes losing the a/c, ABS, interior trim, front/rear bumpers, door braces, etc. Also using a fuel cell, lightweight battery, and a diet for you will help :)

Prepare for a major battle when trying to get traction. Slicks will be a must. But if you minimize wheel spin and hop, the weakest link in your drivetrain is going to start taking a beating.
A heavy duty clutch (I like my South Bend) and beefier axles will be required. A rebuilt and reworked transmission may also be needed.
Not sure how serious you are about drag racing, but figure on a grand to get a true LSD for that trans as well.

Walbro 255 and 750 injectors are on my list for sure and looking v3 for tuning. Going to do it right the first time. Oh and I only paid 1600 for this dsm and got in it and drove it home.

Funny that the OP is worrying on being outclassed by a motor that isn't even in the DSM world .. a V-8.

I don't worry on it knowing that V-8's are a class all by themselves. Now, if I had a Chev Nova with a built up 350 with full race cams and such, and the guy next to me has a Camaro with a big block 396 bored over .030 with high rise manifold, 750 dbl pumper carb and 80 kv ignition system blasting over 400 shaft hp to the rear wheels, then it would be a close race.

Just stay within your class - being the 4cylinder motor. The motor wasn't designed to be a racing motor, but a motor designed for economy and for smaller built vehicles.

For my Nov I'm going to stay with my stock 1g cause I like the way it sounds or use my greddy type s that I have. Have decided yet. And say far as it goes with my class I'm going to stay in it until we have a free for all day. U can race who ever u want and I have a buddy that I work with that thinks his 03 from mustang is just a monster. Got to show him at a dsm can do.

For starters, I would go 1000cc injectors just so your not limited. Especially if you want to leave the option of E85 on the table. Your 1g BOV will be just fine, it may need a slight crush at most. Otherwise Kreez covered the basics very well.

Also, I would cheek to make sure you have a legit Evo 3 16g. With a small or big 16g, 350hp can be a chore. Forget 400hp. Even with a legit Evo 3, 400hp won't be a breeze. So I would highly suggest upgrading to something larger. A 20g would do the trick, but a 50 trim or Holset would leave room to grow.

I have checked on the Turbo to see if it is real and it's the real deal mhi td05h. And the old guy I got it from had the receipt for it and it was a grand on the paper from our local tuning shop.

I would go with a walbro 255, either a 2g mafs or a GM mafs. Then anywhere between 650-1000cc injectors to give you plenty of room to grow. As for the turbo an hx35 with the bep .55 ar dsm turbine housing. And if you really want to be diffrent with a holset set up you could do a hlc hybrid build and make it basically a hx40/hx35 hybrid. V3 link is the only way to go as for tuning, and a fmic ets is a good choice.

I have picked my fuel set up out and I'm going to do the 650's with the walbro 255 and a fpr kit for my 16g for know and do a 20g or 50 trim in a few months. and my boy told me to use a gm mafs and the translator Gen 2 for right know for a street tune til my v3 comes in I'll get the full set up from him for 60 bucks for the translator and sensor.

Just stay within your class - being the 4cylinder motor. The motor wasn't designed to be a racing motor, but a motor designed for economy and for smaller built vehicles.

Horrible advice.

If you want to stomp on v8's then by all means go for it. Our little economy motor that wasn't meant for racing LOL sure holds a lot of records for going fast.

Fuellab is the one I'm going with and already beat my big brother's stock 99 from mustang so I have already started. At the track right now on a free for all day.

A rebuilt and reworked transmission may also be needed.
