I have had a few DSM's but I am not too familiar with the Laser model from Plymouth.. I know it is the same pretty much all internally though..I think..LOL Anyway my question is what should I pay for a 92 Laser RS Turbo with 84,000 miles on it..the car is untouched and the only problem the owner says is the transmission sychronizers which he says is a $300 fix.. Is it legit? He says he double clutches it and it works just fine.. He is asking $3700 for the car but is open to offers.. I was thinking of offering $2700 or $3000.. Any advice would be much appreciated.. I am still a newbie in the DSM realm.. but I do have to say I will never buy another Honda..LOL

The transmission is bad so take that into account. You're more than likely going to have to pay for a full rebuild which is going to cost more than $300.

Is it awd? The low miles are nice, but a fwd with a bad transmission wouldn't be worth much to me.

Does it grind every gear? It could be the clutch or needs maintenance in the hydraulic system not to mention the clutch pedal bushings wear out. If it truly has those miles I don't think the trans is that bad yet.

No it is FWD, I would be taking it on as a project and it wouldnt be my daily driver... What would a rebuild cost and what should I offer him for the whole car if I end up going with it?

I am waiting for the text to go look at it now... Is there any specific noises that might point out what it may be?

I would just throw a used trans in there.

Honestly, I wouldn't pay more than $2000-$2500 for a FWD 1g needing a trans. That's just me.

Depending on how clean the car is, with those low miles, I would offer around 2500-3000.

But why you're doing a fwd as a project still baffles me..

I no longer have a DSM... and I miss it When I saw the Laser my eyes lit up... anyway Is it worth swapping it over to AWD...is that worth it.. is it possible... is it hard to do?
It's possible but not really worth the effort unless this shell is immaculate.

I would just hold out for an awd because in the long run you'll save money and hassle.

If it needs work than i personally wouldn't pay 1000 bucks for it. I picked this car up for 100 dollars with a broken timing belt. It was immaculate other than the lip on the bumper being cracked (i later fixed that)

Thanks, I just went and looked at it and it was junk... let me know if you guys have any AWD for cheap I could invest some time in... or any good sources to find a DSM project in the southeast

Personally, I got a 1990 eagle talon tsi fwd (same thing), no mods, driven by an old lady, 70 000 miles, for 2000.... perfect engine, tranny, and body. I'm not sure if i just got lucky, but i wouldn't pay any more than 1500-1700 for a tsi with a bad tranny...

Over 2k for that laser isnt worth it.. unless its in mint condition. Keep an eye out craigslist and other DSM forums.. they do pop up often.

Definitely not worth it. Wait till you can find an AWD it took me 6 months to find my GSX but i'm so glad i waited to get it instead of a GST. Check craigslist a couple times a day because those sell extremely fast. Also check ths DSM Classifieds to see if there are any for sale in your area. good luck with finding a car man :hellyeah:

FWD 1G Laser with Trans problems isn't worth more than 1200 being extremely clean.

No.

I nailed my '90 Turbo Laser from a lot for $1400 back in 2008...had a recent JDM motor installed and the tranny is good.. Got it home and immediately did the belt kit, plus other stuff like plugs, tires, brakes, MT-90 for the tranny fluid change .. and eventually ECU.

Almost 4yrs and 28k miles later ( presently at 187kmiles) ... still runs like a top..

True .. way too much for a '92 with a gimpy tranny - with just 84K miles on it, I bet he's the one that destroyed the tranny and won't fess up with it.... it's an "unload quick" sale to a sucker in his eyes...

If you go check it out, do this trick: with the motor idling, move the shifter lightly to first gear without dumping the clutch. If it begins to grind, 1st/2nd gear syncros are shot. But row through the forward gears like this to see how the other syncros are.

Usually it's the 2nd gear syncro that takes the beating and goes first. Plan on a $900 bill for a basic tranny overhaul...

OK so after some craigslist searching I found a built DSM for 4200... Here is a list of Please tell me what you guys think of this:

This is an All Wheel Drive car in very good condition. Built by CM Motorsports in California. Always garaged, very dependable car. No junk parts on this car. This car is very fast. ENGINE...dyno'd 301.2 whp and 257ftlb torque @19 PSI... to all four wheels (it's probably 325 whp now, but 301 whp is what I have a sheet for) -Lancer GSR motor with 75k -HKS 264/272 combo -PTE 3431 57 trim (3,000) miles max -2g mani with TIAL external wastegate -denso 550's -HKS Intercooler -HKS ssqv BOV -Walbro 255 Fuel pump -APEXI AFC -ARP head studs -balance shafts removed -prothane motor mounts -3" turboback with BLACK magnaflow muffler (no cat), not ricey sounding--nice deep sound -2g maf with FP 4" intake pipe -hallaman MBC set at 19 PSI -fluidyne radiator with 14" spal fan that flows 1400 cfm's -brand new 63mm throttle body, has the half shaft mod, flows like a 65mm (throttlebodies.com) MAINTENANCE... -NEW bando timing belt, koyo idler pulley, mistu tension pulley... all seals were changed including CAM seals, main front seal and oil pump seal -NEW oem carrier bearings for driveshaft DRIVETRAIN... -Galant VR-4 tranny with short shift kit -ACT 2600lb with a 6 puck disc -brand new front axles and rebuilt 4 bolt rear axles SUSPENSION... -JIC Magic FLT-A2 Coilovers , 15 way adjustable, car can easily be raised/lowered and ride stiffness adjusted (these were $2200, look them up, there are very nice) -suspension technique sway bars INTERIOR... -auto meter phantom boost gauge -AEM UEGO wideband -apexi afc -auto meter tach w/ shift light -momo shift knob EXTERIOR... -clean body, carbon fiber hood -8k HID kit -JDM yellow FOGS BRAKES.. -brembo OEM replacement rotors FRONT/REAR -AVIDOS carbon metallic brake pads FRONT/REAR VIPER Alarm WHEELS.. Stock 2g wheels This car was built by an adult and always owned by an adult. I'm sure I've missed a few things, but you get the idea. Car has some minor weight reduction. The idle needs to be adjusted, it surges a little. I'm sure it's a vacuum leak. Not a big deal, but I just have no time to work on it. Clean title in hand. I do not have to sell this car; I just have no time for it and hate to see it sit. Serious inquiries only! Do not waste my time if you don't have the money. I would consider trading for a 4x4 or give/take money with trade as needed. Price is $4200 obo. NO EMAILS!

So there it is... what about this deal?! Any help would be greatly appreciated.. What is it worth?

Here is some pics
