WEll got the car fired up. Storm rolled in a screwed up progress on getting it tuned in to idle. Have to make user defined setting for the 7 bar map sensor. Starter is making some noise when engaging so going to have to do some modifying on that. I'll post up some pics of the new downpipe. As soon as its nice out and car is idling on its own I'll post up a start up video.

Nice progress on the car. I do however have one concern.

I also used the AFCO parts to make some adjustable upper control arms for my 1g. I found that after less than 300 miles, the rod end links had developed a considerable amount of play. If I grabbed the tire and wiggle, the heim joint would actually make an audible ticking noise.

I contacted AFCO to see what the "service limit" for play would be and they could not provide me with an answer. Instead they sent me new heim joints. I started by checking them for play and right out of the box, the joints had a considerable amount of play and would make an audible tick.

I ended up pulling these off of my car to check their condition and replace them with the stock uppers and some poly bushings. What I found was a little scary. The inner race had developed wear/heat marks and they would catch your nail when rubbing it over. The marks where mostly brown with a hint of blue. I do not know how long these would have lasted and I am glad that I did not find out.

I am only voicing this concern because I saw the pictures of the parts you where using and they are the exact same ones. There will be a video of the damage soon to come.

We will have to keep an eye on it. I appreciate the heads up. The car won't be on the street so hopefully it'll take awhile to put much wear on them

Mine hardly ever hits the streets. It only sees them when I am traveling to and from the track or tuning out an issue. I hope that you have better results than I did.

Best way I found to check it is raise rear off the ground, then grab the tire in all directions while pushing and pulling. I found what was making the noise with my handy automotive stethoscope. I set up a dial gauge to find .004 of play in one and .003 in the other. Let us know if you find anything.

Will do! I'm really surprised no one else has brought this up yet... Seems like someone might have run into this before

that is discouraging! just picked up that setup for my car, and i plan on beating the crap out of it on the streets..... hmmmm, good to know to atleast keep an eye on them!

If you still have them off the car, check the new joints for play. :thumb:

Sounds sick. Watched some of the other youtube videos and they are pretty impressive. Did you fab up that manifold???

Robert

Nope my buddy did all the fabrication. He's dees75z on here.

I thought the same thing. I was hoping that I just got a bad batch, but after getting a set 4 months after the first set I can only guess that it is a design flaw. I only found the noise because I was chasing a growling noise in the rear. I was shaking everything and that is when I found it.

Here is a picture of the damage and like I said the videos are soon to come.

Sorry I haven't updated this in awhile. I ended up getting a sinister 9" weighted converter and making a few passes. The converter is too tight to do without nitrous. So I put a wet shot on it started out with a 50 shot. The car ran a 6.9 with a 1.8 60' Still wasn't coming out that hard and having valve body issues shifting into second gear. We ended up putting a 75 jet in and trying again at a local event. I one the first round ran a 6.7@111mph. Pulled a 1.5 60' and barely gave it time to get on the converter. I went back to run the finals for $200 against a stroked lt1 trans am on a 200 shot. He was running 6.56 in earlier passes. I started to get on the converter when something broke and made the car rwd. Without knowing I left the line and came out sideways. I let off and got back in it and it started spinning again so I drove back. WE have it pulled apart not and I broke another axle. Pulled the trans expecting carnage, but everything looks good. Replacing a few seals and welding up the front diff then going to head to the dyno hopefully next week followed by some more 1/8th mile testing. I'll let you all know the results

I believe its a 1a. Orginally was going to get the 2a heavy weight, but due to time constraints he sent me. A weighted 1a I believe. I can double check on the note card he sent with specs

Well I really slacked off in keeping this updated. It's been a long frustrating season for me with breaking axles and other issues. Learned a lot on the auto, but still have a long way to go. We got the car to the local 1/8th mile one last time before my season ended. Had a personal best of a 6.50... We didn't think about how cold it was and lost bottle pressure even worse after that pass. Bottle was cold as ice and the car was loading up on fuel and having nitrous back fires, which shuts the car off. The car catches after and comes back on. Also found my main feed for fuse box was barely holding on and causing check engine on and off and car to shut off at end of track and when loading in the trailer..
We are pretty confident the car could have knocked off a 6.3 with bottle heated up. On one of last pulls car made it ok off line then backfired and shut off after 60' pulled a 1.6 and came back on with check engine light. Out of frustration and my desire to give it hell I finished the pass with check engine on. Still knocked off a 6.7, but it trapped 114mph. Now that season is over I have sold my shell and bought mitsu rage's mirage/ Evo clone and will be auto swapping the shell. Hoping for a more successful season coming up.
Here is time slip and video
