Planning on getting a rear side exit on my 90 awd tsi , i keep finding posts about fwd exits. problem looking off theres is that i have a drive shaft. Does anyone have a setup i can look at or know what people are using. 2.5 inch or 3" straight or using a resperator or do these sound good.. that feedback would be helpfull thanks.:thumb:

easy solution, get a FWD car you NOOB haha. you can have mine. just kiddin cody. ill look around and see what i can come up with. i was searching for it and this was the first one that came up LOL so ill see what i can dig up.

Chad ima slap you haha thanks bud. now we gotta find out what to do with your 1gb

wouldn't that be ridiculously loud for a DD?

EDIT: But if thats not to loud, which im sure it it, that would be very easy to do. Also i cant find anything about doing a side exit on a awd at all

Its not a ricing it. a fart can is rice haha. Plus turn down blasts rocks everywhere. my truck does in in our drive way its annoying enough. Im doing a flush side exit straight but im looking for people that already did it.

its kinda quiet at idle and low rpm but at WOT its very loud and i love it.

Do you have a sound clip of that? and no fart cans here. haha

EDIT: Since you cant route it like you could on a FWD i would just route it how the stock exhaust is coming out the back. Might be a bit more piping but it would be more free flowing because you wouldnt have that big 90 degree bend to make it come out the side.

I ran a downpipe only, no turndown for a couple days while having some exhaust fabbed, WAY TOO LOUD for me at least. at idle it was pretty close to my straight pipe to muffler, but as soon as you gave it any gas it was too loud to avoid tickets.

I'm Not wanting to cut up my car just wanted a high flowing side exit exhaust

...then jack up your car and take a look. you will not find anything already built, and i havent come across many people running side exit on this site in a while, unless its running out of the front bumper off the turbo.

Look under the car, see what isnt in the way, buy some new piping and clamps, and build away

The exhaust runs along under the drivers-side of the car in a 2g. It's been a long time since I've owned a 1g AWD, but I do know the exhaust never crosses over the drive shaft at any point. Why not just have it exit whichever side the exhaust is predominantly on? There should be an exhaust hanger at some point right after the down pipe; so have it start turning out towards the side there. You might need to weld an additional hanger somewhere in there. Why don't you take a picture of under your car and draw how you want to route it? I can think of about 104856394 ways to do this....it's not a hard job.

Thanks for the pointers guys and the exhaust will be going out which ever side it is on. But will a straight pipe be to loud?

Before I put my exhaust back on, it was VERY loud running open downpipe. Having a side exit will be no different. Having a catalytic converter or somehow fitting a resonator (or two) would help quiet it down a little bit. If you don't get on it all of the time, you might be alright depending on how anal law enforcement/noise ordinances are in your town/city.

Hope you like the smell of exhaust. At stop lights you're car WILL fill with exhaust fumes (ask me how I know).

I think it's pointless and looks stupid in my opinion. The definition of "rice."

I disagree. There's a huge difference in the audible noise created from dumping the exhaust directly below the cabin of the car VS. dumping outside of the body of the car. An open downpipe will cause nasty resonance and will create a "drone" sound in the car. Not to mention the related issue with fumes entering the cabin. Dumping outside of the body of the vehicle is far quieter inside the car. It's a night and day difference in many cases.

I have a side exit (FWD) and it is VERY loud. I have a 5" Magnaflow on it and it will deafen you after a while. It's just not practical for a daily driver IMO.

I was thinking of fitting a Dynomax Bullet muffler on it. I heard it on Chad's car and its sexy. I wont be able to get his size due to the Shaft. If i get one decent size one should quiet. And I WILL! Heat shield the bottom of my car.

Who said i was going to drive it in town ;). Thing is the Cops near me are very relaxing. Heck they will even rev there motors driving past the hang outs and even talk to us. They know us "Street drivers" don't mess around in town.

Of all honesty bud, a 3g with a fart can is rice. I'm getting a high flow side exit for performance and weight reduction. One of these days you will understand.:notgood:
