Im getting ready to start my 4G63 and auto to 5speed build

When I finally have enough posts ill put this in the build section

This all started about a year ago when my brother bought a 88 TSI with a blown head gasket for $700. He bought it (not knowing anything about these cars) thinking it would be a quick fix. The plus side to the purchase was that the body of the car( except the faded clear coat and the paint coming off of the wing LOL) and interior were in MINT CONDITION! There is not a speck of rust anywhere and the interior is all original and looks like it just came off of the show room.

Well after he Failed miserably, I helped him replace the whole engine. The car runs fine, I drove it all weekend in fact!

Well on day my brother couldn't get it running and got sick of is just sitting so he GAVE it to me for FREE! After about 30 minutes of working on it I found out he had 2 spark plug wires crossed and since then it has ran great. He finally asked me how the car was going so i did the noble thing and told him the engine was shot! LOL ( I didn't want him taking it back!LOL)

Well here it is, I picked up the 4G63 motor for a great price. All i have to do now is get the Tranny. Im going to go with just a D50 trans for now, because My buddy has a D50 just sitting in his back yard so I'm getting it for next to nothing. The starquest is also a Auto so I'm going to take the challenge of turning it into a 5 speed.

Well Wish me luck! THE BUILD BEGINS!

Alright DSM Guys I need some help again. I had ARP Conncecting Rod Bots installed on my rods and i just realised that I didnt use their ARP Fastener Assembly Lubricant on the threads.... So my question is, should I take the oil pan back off and apply the lubricant to the rod bolts? Let me know. I dont exactly want to take the pan pack off but i will if i have to.

Did you torque them to 40 ft. lbs without the lube? If so they aren't going to be tight enough because of the increased friction. For example, 6 bolt APR head studs are torqued to 80 ft. lbs. with the moly lube or 120 ft. lbs. with 30 weight oil due to the increased friction when not using the moly lube.

Here is the instruction sheet for ARP rod bolts:

thanks man, Sorry I keep asking questions. But I would rather sound dumb than not be safe. Like I said before , Im not New to Engines at all, just New to this DSM Stuff. Thanks for the Help, Im sure I will have more questions soon!

No. The t5 is similar to the t45, they utilize a lot of the same parts... The t56 is a tremec trans, but the parts do not interchange from a t5/t45. :)

The t5 was also used in mustangs of course the t45 was used in mustangs but the modular engine so I don't think the bellhousings are any where near similar especially since the t45 didn't have a seperate bellhousing to the transmission. Both have been made by tremec. The t56 is a 6 speed so completely different then a t5 or t45. Also many of the t56 transmissions have different gear ratios and torque capacities for different manufacturers like gm, ford, and dodge. The t5 is probably your best bet because parts are easy to come by and they cant be built to hold serious power.

Hey man I got the part in the mail on Saturday. Just wanted to say thanks again! Now I can get the valve cover finally tightened down for good!

Finished welding my Exhaust Manifold.

Why ditch the 2.6 for the 2.0? I wish my 93gs had the same power as the 89.

shoulda put the 54b back in there
2.6 + mpi + 16g sitting in a 05H housing =) /win

Just an FYI about the Starion, the crank and rods are forged; not cast. The crank was also deep Nitrided. The biggest problems they had was a two valve single cam head very prone to cracking, TBI injection with only two injectors, a bad plenum design, and a transmission that couldn't handle the output of a modded motor.

That said, I've owned 5 of them and I'm working on my 2.4 swap now.

Question for the OP: How has the exhaust manifold flip working out? I really would like to know!!!
